The right rear wheel on our 1998 Pontiac Sunfire is making a scraping noise when the car is in motion. It almost reminds me of when the wheel bearing assembly went out, but we had that replaced a couple of months ago. The only thing that I can think of is the breaks but the car has no trouble stopping...I'm out of ideas.

I found out what it was; a bolt had come lose on the wheel bearing assembly and caught in the rotor, so when the wheel was turning, the rotor was scraping the bolt. Nothing major like I thought.

It could be the brakes, or drum assembly. Remove the wheel and spin it...then the drum and spin it,...you should find it this way!

-Base on your information the Is the Left side. Do not quest that is the bearing. Or Open window and listen when you make turn, where is the noise come from?
-Is this car front wheel drive...? Of so possibly the CV Joint.
-If rear wheel drive the problem is the bearing.

Good Luck

Rear drums. which way do the slack adjusters go so they work properly. 1998 sunfire.

the brake adjuster wheels are closest to the rear brake shoe.as you adjust the adjuster wheel it should rotate in one direction only and the brakes should move outward towards the drum and is stopped when trying to turn the wheel in the opposite direction by the bar that is to stop it from rotating in the wrong direction.

My Sunfire makes a loud noise from the front right side when I make a left hand turn. Whats the problem?

Usually, a loud clicking noise is indicative of a bad axle. You could also have a loose/damaged wheel bearing.

2003 pontiac sunfire no right rear turn signal or brake light just taillamp

I have had this experience myself. If the lamp is good try scraping the contacts inside the recepticle and raise the prongs on the lamp to make tighter contact. It worked for me.

My rear back brakes on my 1997 pontiac sunfire have been making a scraping noise for the past month. When I took the car in to have an allignment in a heated garage for over a hour on my way home they just...

When applied, brakes generate lots of heat... If noise was there after dirving for a while, likely the noise is not from ice. If noise is gone, wait and see if it returns, If it does, check rear brake linings to make sure they are OK (never hurts to check them once in a while anyhow!!!)
