Front wheel Drive query

I have just bought a 1992 GRTD manual. I had the car up on stands checking out an oil leak. I had the car idling with the right front wheel off the ground and it started moving all by itself. It could be stopped by holding the wheel stationary but when you let go it just starts turning and gets up to quite a speed.

Is this normal? I have never really come across this before and don't have much experience with front wheel drive cars.

Any comments?

Yours clutch cable should be a manual adjust type - 2 nuts on the cable end of the cable (in the engine bay)

NOTE: From mid-94 an automatically adjusted cable was progressively introduced. this has no nut type adjusters at the clutch end

SPECIFICATIONS: 1988 TO 1996
Models up to 1992 .... 145mm
Models from 1993 on .. 162mm +/- 12.0mm

The clutch adjustment is checked by measuring the clutch pedal travel.
1. If a new cable has been fitted, settle it in position by depressing the clutch pedal at least 20 times.
2. Ensure that there are no obstructions beneath the clutch pedal.
Depress the clutch pedal fully to the floor, and measure the distance from the center of the clutch pedal pad to the floor.
Now release the pedal and again measure the distance from the pedal to the floor.
3. Subtract the first measurement from the second to obtain the clutch pedal travel.
If this is not within the range given in the specifications, adjust the cable as follows.
4. The clutch cable is adjusted by means of the adjuster nut on the transmission end of the inner cable.
On some models, access to the locknut is limited and, if required, the air cleaner duct or housing component can be removed or disconnected to improve access.
5. Working in the engine compartment, slacken the locknut on the end of the clutch cable.
Adjust the position of the adjuster nut, then re-measure the clutch pedal travel.
Repeat this procedure until the clutch pedal travel is as specified.
6. Once the adjuster nut is correctly positioned, and the pedal travel is correctly set, securely tighten the cable locknut.
Where necessary, refit any disturbed air cleaner duct/housing components.

DEar Customer,

your from is that your car is front wheel drive & you have to reset your car clutch point that loose its sensitivity as they had before,

its not a big prib you have to open bonet than make more active clutch wire with streching clutch joints.

Oil leak - I see oil in the garage every morning -

check what colour the oil is firstly--- red --transmission oil==black --engine oil===dark brown --gear/diff oil. Next check the position of the oil between the front wheels - red -transmission cooler lines leak /power steering leak
black between the front wheels-- front crank seal. If you have a front drive car then you will have to be careful but the colour will tell you what is leaking and where.

1992 Buick Lesabre Idle Problem/ Bad gas mileage

If there is no "Check Engine" light try a bottle of good injector cleaner in your gas, or cleaning the throat of your throttle body with a good spray cleaner. If the "Check Engine" light comes on then put it on a code scanner and that will point you in the right direction.
