My wife has a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox with approx. 37K. About a week or two ago I drove the vehicle and noticed something odd. On occasion, normally under light to moderate braking the pedal slowly depresses all the way to the floor. The vehicle has not failed to stop as of today. I took it back to the service department on 01/14/2008 and of course the brakes worked fine according to them. Drove the car to work today and while traveling from lunch, the pedal went to the floor on 3 separate occasions. Pedal feels like it’s building pressure as it should up to ¼ or ½ pedal and then slowly continues to depress. As stated above, this only happens on occasion
If you have no air in the system, then the Master cylinder is leaking (inside) which means you have to replace it. This is not normal to any car when the pedal goes to the floor.
My wife's 2005 Equinox got progressively worse "brake travel" over a 2 week period recently. My service guy checked the lines and found no leaks or problems. He determined that the master brake cylinder had gone bad and needed to be replaced... $300 later, we haven't had the problem again.
You dealership lied that is not common with any car.
Theirs definetly something wrong you are losing pressure somewhere or you have air in the brake system.
Check your brake lines for any evidence of fluid spraying around that area.
My 03 trailblazer does the same thing and the service dept. told me that it was normal for this model to do that, it has never failed to stop but if your sitting at a red light you can feel the peddle go down to almost the floor but it stops fine and it has done this since day 1 and they say thats normal on the trailblazer.

My wife had the same problem with her car right afer we bought it and rear ended another car. The dealership said nothing was wrong with her brakes yet after it was repaired there was still an ocassional growling noise that comes from the brakes. We bought 2 Equinoxs at the same time and my brakes ocassionall make the same noise butI have never had a soft pedal
I have a 2006, I've noticed this same problem. Pedal fades almost to the floor. I've noticed it for a while but yesterday seemed particularly bad.
I just bought my used 2006 equinox and signed the papers yesterday. My husband and I both looked up consumer reports and it got 4 out of 5 stars acrossed the border so we thought it would be much safer than my 2005 ford focus. At 530 this morning I was driving to work (luckily my husband had our 20 month little girl) and a light turned red .... I applied the brake and there was nothing for a second it seemed to go a little faster and then slowly very slowly my car started to decrease speed but not fast enough inorder not to cross the interection and cause a Tbone wreck I tried to make a right turn onto the other street (it was a T intersection no traffic if I made a right) But I was going to fast and I hit the med took out the cross walk pole and slammed into a truck in the turn lane. The equinox kept me safe from major bodily harm it took the impact well but where were my brakes? If my brakes would have worked I would have stopped! I hope it is totalled so that I can get a different car if this is a problem that is normal my baby isnt safe Im not safe. Thankyou for all you have wrote I am showing all these comments to my insurance adjuster, Im not crazy I have been in bed all day thinking that I am crazy.
I have a 2008 Chevy Equinox Sport that has the same problem with the "mushy" brakes. Occasionally, the brakes will go all the way to the floor as if the pressure isn't there. When I let off and reapply the brakes, they work fine. The Chevy Dealer can't get it to do this and can't fix it.
I have a 2005 Equinox and the brakes are mushy at times. The pedal engages at different levels on a regular basis. Dealership cannot make it do this. I have to add brake fluid about once a month but the dealership cannot find any evidence of any leaks in the system.
There may be low fluid in the master cylinder, make sure its topped off
Noise when brake pedal is pushed.
car will go when depressing gas pedal to the floor or go very slowly when pushing gas pedal slightly but will not go, without stalling in and out while depressing the gas pedal in at normal pressure
