My daughter has a 1998 Avenger as soon as the car starts it blows a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment which is simply marked ENGINE. After this fuse blows the car will not even try to start the lights and power windows and all still work but nothing as far as ignition, replace the fuse the car starts pops the fuse and dies again. Can anyone help me ???

Sounds like you have a short in the electrical system between the ignition and the fuse box. it might be metal to metal somewhere inbetween in the wiring that is makeing the fuse blow out everytime

Hi, if you're talking about the 30 Amp fuse in the engine compartment, there is a lot of things that could cause this. If it's the smaller 10 amp fuse inside the car, there is less to check. The first thing I would do is to pull the connectors off all the injectors and check impedances with an ohmmeter. If any has a much lower impedance than the rest, disconnect it and see if the engine will run without blowing the fuse. You can use the same approach with most of the other components on that fuse circuit, except you may not be able to start the car in many cases. If the fuse blows when the engine is not running, that would make it easier--does it?
Are you wanting to discontinue the abs? If so, then keep in mind that you will no longer have abs. The brakes will still function the same without abs. In order to "bypass" the abs system, locate the main fuse/control box under hood. There should be either a relay or large fuse marked for abs. If so, simply remove the fuse/relay.
It sounds like a bad ignition switch or something is grounding out.Try to isolate the problem to key positions.See if the fuse blows when you turn the key to ACC(when your dash lights come on without starting)If the fuse does not blow then when you go to start it and it blows it could be one of many problems,the more common ones could be ignition switch,wiring,starter relay,starter soleniod,or perhaps the starter itself is shorting out,this can sometimes happen when a starter goes bad.
