1995 Saturn automatic trans. shifting hard enough to brake motor mounts. Any suggestions for fixing

Check for broken motor mount, trans linkage is mounted at some point to the engine and/or trans. When engine moves your linkage adjustment will change.

Not sure why you went after the mounts. Sounds like shift solenoids or something more serious with the transmission.

you probably have a bad motor mount. Look under the hood, passenger side of engine compartment cast iron mount with rubber insert. Is the rubber insert worn visually inspecting. If you cannot tell, have a friend start the car, emergency brake on, foot on brake, shift from park to drive, does the motor jump in the mount? shift from drive to reverse, does it jump again. If so bad mount, local auto repair store should carry. you will have to jack up the engine carefully not much and not directly on oil pan, you just have to relieve the weight on the mount to replace. several m10 bolts, 15mm socket to remove. retighten fasteners to 58+/- 9Nm of torque. good luck.

Cv joints usually knock or click, especially when turning. Open the hood, start the engine and while looking at the engine from the drivers seat put foot on brake and shift to reverse. if the engine jumps, must have a bad mount. also may try giving it a little gas while holding brake to make sure. also try it it drive as well. chances are its the trans mount going bad.


note: if there are any oil leaks that are getting the mount wet it will continue to fail.

hi it could possibly be a faulty shift soliniod in the tranz it pay to have it checked out before it dose serious damage also pay to check the drive line make sure theirs no play in any cv or universal joints also check the mounts for tranz&engine mounts good luck

sounds like a trans mount when they go bad it causes all kinds of shakes , have someone put in gear ,open hood,, watch motor. tell them to hold brake and give it a little gas .Don;t stand in front of car .....see if motor raises up if so replace all mounts motor included. this is a common fix on theses cars.

your shifting cable is weared down it will go bad .

It's possible, especially if the used trans sat unused for a while. When you change the filter, make sure that the trans has fresh, proper fluid.

vibration ...have a 2nd person start the vehicle and visually look under the vehicle while the car is in drive and brake applied ...unless its Manuel shift then i would suggest something of a different procedure to testing ...are all the exhaust mounts secure..something rubbing on the firewall to cause this ,would you care to elaborate any more ..
