Never none a gm product to have a inertia switch only ford uses them if you suspect fuel is problem have someone smack the bottom of fuel tank with hammer while you try to start car if pump is bad it should start but may not

  • Anonymous Jul 19, 2022

not true some gm cars in 2000 year had them. yes great classic rubberhammer trick (but then get stranded bad)
no crank means starter motor is dead and silent.
and is bad PRNDL switch, cranking in "N" neutral
or jumper cable start the engine,
or call autoclub tow truck and they jump if for you.

If the inertia switch is activated, what does it affect on a 2003 Jaguar S-Type please?

It cuts power to the fuel pump when the car suffers crash damage.

The inertia switch is located in the footwell behind the trim on the right-hand side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the fascia. A finger access hole allows the driver to reset the switch.

1998 ford ranger 2.5L manual trans. 4x2... i have power to inertia switch but not to fuel pump. help please

Can you reset the internia switch? Use a proper jumper wire and bypass the inertia switch, engine cranking. If the pump runs, maybe the inertia switch is faulty? jump the dark green wire with yellow tracer to pink wire with black tracer to see if pump will run. Just my opinion.

Is the Inertia switch and the fuel pump relay the same thing?

No. The relay powers up the fuel pump and the inertia switch kills power to the fuel pump in the event of a collision to prevent a fuel related fire.

Cranks but wont start

This problem can be from the Inertia sensor. On Lincolns, the Inertia switch is usually close to the Air-ride cut-off switch in the trunk. Or behind a front floor kick panel.

There is a reset button on the switch. Check photos on the Web if you want to see what you are looking for.

Fuel pump reset switch

This switch would be located in one or two places. If you have Air-ride suspension the Inertia switch is usually close to the Air-ride switch. Sometimes there is a plastic cover over the switch in the rear cargo area. The rest of the time the Inertia switch is in front by the front seat kick panels.

There is a reset button on the switch, just press and hold for a second or two and the reset is made.

It got wrecked and i fix it but it wont start

Did you check for an inertia switch. Most vehicles have an inertia switch installed in the fuel pump circuit that cuts off the fuel pump when involved in an accident.

Explorer wont start

You need to tell us if it will crank or not. The most common cause for not cranking is the interlock system on top of the brake pedal lever. Go under the dash and you will see a switch which often gets moved or broken by drivers' feet.

If the engine cranks, then you need to determine if it is a gas or spark problem. Sometimes you can use Starting fluid sprayed sparingly in the air intake and then try to start the motor. If it tries to run, you have found out that you have a fuel problem. If it does not try to hit or run, it is likely a spark problem.

When you reach a no start condition, often a trouble Code is in the computer. A scanner will quickly indicate many possible problems and eliminate guessing by displaying the correct trouble Code.

There is also an inertia sensor that is usually around a kickpanel. Browse the Web for a photo. This switch will activate sometimes with a doorslam or cargo lid slam. It is meant to be reset and then your fuelpump will work. Sometimes the inertia switch is in a rear cargo panel. Browse the web for a diagram titled, "fuel inertia switch", for your vehicle.
