I need to replace the cabin air filter on a 2008 volvo s80 3.2..The solution earlier posted did not help since the removal of the panel below the glove box does NOT reveal a place to put the cabin filter, instead there is a fuse box. so, where is the access for the cabin filter on a 2008 S80 3.2?

Right hand drive model isn't so easy ! 2008 model :-
remove centre panel behind radio (unclips) remove glove box lid and panel and then inner glovebox (unscrews and unclips) carefully unplug five wiring multiplugs from glove box etc.
undo and lower down fuse box, unclip all wiring multiplugs from top of fusebox, remove fusebox bracket from bulkhead (2 x 13mm nuts) push fusebox down out of the way.
pull carpet away from side of centre console and remove two small (7mm head) black self tapping bolts from cabin/pollen filter cover and slide out filter.
Reverse process to rebuild !
This is really difficult... A friend of mine tried to fix this and it took over an hour. Anyway this is how he did it..
First take off the panel from behind the radio. (3x T25 screws)Then remove the big panel under the steering wheel. Then you'll need to remove the accelerator/gas pedal. To do this remove the 3 x 10mm bolts underneath and the 2 on top. When there unbolted remove the gas pedal. Drag the carpet back that's directly under the steering wheel to show the black cover panel with 4x 7mm screws that underneath. Take those screws out and the cabin air filter will be underneath. Replace filter and put everything back together EXACTLY how you dismembered it =)
The Cabin air filter is located under the cowl on the passenger side (below the bottom of the windshield). There is just one push type retainer in the outside corner of the cowl the needs to be pulled out and the cowl cn be pulled up just far enough to remove and install the cabin air filter, which just slides in and out.
It's under the dashboard. First you must dismount the accelerator pedal
(!), remove some dashboard plastic on driver side. The filter is
somewhere behind the central console. I think it should be changed every two years. Look into the manual. The
company where you take the car for oil & filter change every year
must change also this filter with no additional charges. Of course they
charge you for the filter, which is not very exponsive.
Remove drivers side underdash sound proofing panel, remove accelerator pedal(yeah I know). Fold carpet back remove three retaining screws from cover, fold cover up. remove filter by moving it out behind brake pedal.
Put the seat back all the way rearward (just to give you more room to move.
On the panel just directly below the glove box, there should be two Torx 25 screws. Remove those and pull that panel downward and rotate the right side back, that should release it from the kick panel on the left.
Now towards the back you should see the blower motor. Kind of an off white color and a black panel on the bottom of that.
It's held in with four gold colored Torx 25 screws. Remove those and the pollen filter should be in there.
If you have the thin pollen filter, you can get away with simply removing the two golden Torx 25 screws closest to you, carefully bend down the black plastic cover (carefully enough to squeeze the pollen filter past, I've seen people break them cause they do it too much).
If you have the thicker pollen filter, you have no choice but have to remove the four screws.
