Sometimes the cap is marked #1. sometimes not, inoder to find # 1 you will need to pull the number one sparkplug and spin engine until compression pops out of plug hole, you will be tapping the key not holding it because you will pass it,then use a light or long thin screw driver and then continue to spin engine but this time quick taps until the piston reaches the top of the cylinder, note remove the coil wire so engine does not start,you can also spin the crank when your close with a socket, spin engine until the screw driver is up when you feel if start down go back a touch thats top dead center, remove the distributor cap and look at where the rotor is pointing, then match with the cap terminal thats # 1. hope this helps.
