Tire compressor probably draws too much current for the socket. Are you sure it is a cigarette lighter socket? Some sockets are just to provide accessories 12v. Did a cigarette lighter come with this socket? True cigarette lighter sockets are generally fused at 25 or 30 Amps
YOU NEED TO REPLACE CIGARETTE LIGHTER FUSE.LOOK FOR LOCATION IN THE OWNERS MANUAL IN GLOVE COMPARTMENT.CIGARETTE LIGHTER FUSE SHOULD BE IN THE INTERIOR CAR FUSE BOX.
check fuses to see if blown or try another adaptor in the socket lighter to see if it works if it dooesnt then the fuse if it does work oh boy a long and wonderous journey awaits you i am only joking it could be serious but check fuses first its easier
On some vehicles the cigarette lighter fuse is attached to the cigarette lighter assembly itself. Check if you can gently prise the cigarette lighter assembly out of its location in the dashboard, or remove any panel that may allow access to the rear of the cigarette lighter and look for the fuse (it may be an in-line one in the power lead to the cigarette lighter or it may be physically attached to the cigarette lighter itself). Failing that, the fusebox is normally under the dashboard on the driver side, but some fuseboxes can be found under the dashboard on the passenger side. There should be a diagram under the fusebox cover that shows what circuits each fuse protects. If a fuse has blown ensure that another of the same type and value is used to replace it.
Fuse box should be located either in the glove compartment, or to your left below stearing wheel. Also check fuses under hood, should be located next to the battery. Double check the GPS, most of them will nox plug into cigarette lighter plug. It could damage the GPS.
It's likely just a fuse. Look in the owners manual and find which fuse powers the cigarette lighter, remove it and check to see if it's blown. If so replace it.
I had exactly same problem. I could not use my GPS or charge my cell phone.
In front of the driver sit, there are actually 2 fuse boxes. You probably found the first one. A second one is located above well hidden. Once you find it, you'll find the fuse you are looking for.
