Yes those seals usually pop out from the outside after gear lever is removed.. be careful not to score the aluminum housing when removing - if in doubt use a thin layer of Permatex Ultra Black (arguably the only RTV that shd ever be sold) and leave over night..
Raise the truck with all 4 wheels off the ground, use jack stands for safety, Start the truck, engage 4hi/4lo operations , put in drive, take foot off the brake and see if the front drive shaft is turning the front diff.

Is the oil you see reasonably clean or is it black. The gearbox oil would be cleaner than the engine oil. Gearbox leaks would most likely come from one of the following:-
Drive shafts
Gear change lever inputs,
Speedo cable
Reverse light switch
Drain plug
Input shaft seal (inside the bell housing).
Pig a piece of paper under the car when you park it at night to give you an idea where the drip is located and inspect the area above that position
There is a sensor under the brake lever. Try pulling up on the lever to see if the light shuts off. Most likely the cable needs some more tension so the lever does not rest on the switch/sensor causing the light to lite up.
