You can jump to the battery or alternator or starter. All have a hot lead. Usual method is positive clamp to the battery "+" terminal and negative cable to a good ground point. This could be the "-" battery terminal, a place on the frame, or a ground point on the engine.

Dead Battery

You will need to get to the battery inorder to do this. If you can't, because the lock is not functioning, you will need to call a locksmith and have the lock replaced. Do this properly, if you don't you could cause more damage than just a dead battery.

I tried jump starting a diesel engine with my petrol engine now my petrol engine wont turn over although the battery is good why ?

Some times the extra amperage coming from the alternator the diesel motor will burn out the electrical components of a smaller vehicle. This is why you should never jump start your lawnmowers, motorcycles, or any small engine with a full size vehicle. Check your battery, then alternator, and keep tracing it back until you find the source of the problem.

1997Ford F350 Diesel, Will not turn over, just one click and nothing. Is there a way to test the starter or solenoid? If there is can you please give me directions? Any other things I could check?

Try jumping it, sounds like the battery can be dead. But there is a solenoid on the firewall I believe the left side inner fender (in the engine compartment) you can turn the ignition on and jump the two leads with a screwdriver and see if the motor turns over. Remember this is a huge motor with high compression and the glow plugs have to fire to start. Takes a lot of juice to get it going (thats why it has 2 batteries). Make sure you have charged batteries. If not charge/jump the truck. The starter can only be tested off the truck, a solenoid if bad only cost a few bucks ($20-$30) but they don't fail too often

Hi, I own an accent CRDi '03. My problem is that, engine wont start in the mornings. But it does start on jump starting and push start. After that it runs normally and starts normally. I've checked...

Hi, I think you have a bad altinator or eletrical short which drains your battery over night, once you jump start your vehicle the altinator charges your battery enough that it starts all day but if it is parked for longer time the battery drains.

Where do you jump start a 2001 reg S class from. i have just brought one but cant get into the boot

Hi,
Jump starting means, connecting two cables to boost the power of your battery from another power source( another normal powered battery ).
You must look first for your battery, that is located in the engine compartment.
Connect a jump cables from the positive( + ) pole of your battery to another car w/ the same voltage of battery, connect another cable to negative( - ) pole of the another battery to your engine expose metal ground. DO NOT START YOUR ENGiNE/TURN ON. Let the other car start the engine, let it charge for 15 minutes.
Then, pull out the cables attach to your battery and to another. YOU MAY TURN YOUR ENGiNE and START the engine.
Hope that fixes your problem!

We do not know how to jump the battery for the back door is shut

Hello, there is a place under the hood you can use to jump start this vehicle. here is the instructions.

Locate the remote positive terminal which is located under a red tethered cap on the engine compartment fuse block. Remove the cap to access the terminal.
  • Do not remove fuse block cover to jump start the vehicle.
  • Locate the remote negative (-) ground terminal, marked GND (-), which is located at the front of the engine compartment on the driver side of the vehicle.
