Have you got a good spark- take out a plug and lay it plugged into the lead on top of the engine so the tip is earthed (touching the engine) and crank it over - DO NOT TOUCH THE PLUG WHILST CRANKING AS IT GENERATES MASSIVE ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE..............
if it sparks its probably a fuel problem still and not ignition/electrical.

1st check battery then batteries negative ground wire check for corrosian YES I KNOW you already checked that.Good now check negative ground wire connection to frame of vehicle OK Now check positive wire at Battery for corrosion in liettle Wire.Make sure ground wire to frame is not corroded and is tight.Maybe have some one wiggle the positive wires some when you try starting car! This could help if it sometimes works and sometimes not.Last check and switch fuse in fusebox with different fuse maybe it blew! Because wires at battery corroded or loose.Good fortune to you.

if the engine turns over, but just doesn't start, you need to do some checking, check for spark from the coil, or coil packs, if that checks out ok, have the crank and cam shaft position sensors checked, timing belt, computor. I know it's a pain, but I have worked on cars for 40 years, something like this you have to use process of elimination, without testing, you could replace things you don't need. ( expensive) good luck).

SOURCE: quits while driving replaced many suspected parts

try this, the next time it quits leave the key in on position and get a broom stick and go to the passenger side of the car. About straight in at the back of the door ,reach under with the broom stick and tap the plastic gas tank a few times, have someone try to start it or go start it yourself. Mine did this even after the garage checked it out and cleaned the tank. Come to find out dirt settles around the fuel pump and clogs it. They just blame the pump but in my case the pump was fine. I was told Alero used a very small fine mesh in the sock that goes in the fuel pump and they clog up. But most of the dirt was around the plastic guard around the fuel pump. See if this works and let us know. Good luck

Drain the fuel out and flush the fuel lines and the filter. Failure to purge the unleaded fuel from the system can destroy the engine due to severe pre ignition.

I suspect my brother may of put something in my gas tank to contaminate it. My car not running good cuts out and chatters i recently before this changed my fuel filter, new plugs . thankyou

Sugar in the gas tank is an old trick used against enemies (for retribution) or friends (as a lousy practical joke). If that's what has been done, you'll have to have the tank drained and flushed and the rest of the fuel system flushed. Very expensive job. Good luck.

2000 vw golf aqy engine, starting from cold is a real nightmare its seems as if there is no fuel getting to the engine. when it dose start if it dosen't run the battery flat first. it dosen't seem to have...

It sounds like a fuel pump and/or fuel filter. Couple of reasons - if fuel filter is partially clogged fuel pump works twice as hard. Also this time of year with big temperature swings condensation (water) forms in fuel tank. If its a weak fuel pump, as pump gets old/tired it won't hold adequate pressure and drains back at night or shut down. Try the fuel filter first and run a good fuel cleaner through it prior to changing filter.

I am having a similar problem, but there is no check engine light. It seems that mine dies at the light or running, if the rpm's drop. I am wondering if the Idle air control valve is bad or possibly the ERG valve?

How often do you change a fuel filter on a 2005 chevy impala

I usually change the fuel filters every two years like coolant system and transmition flushes , but may have to more often if driving above average mileage, running contaminated/dirty fuel, or if the fuel tank is rusty or has a contaminant such as varnish, water, alcohol, debris, etc... in the tank.

Well, I came up empty handed in my attempts to get detailed tech information on the 2.5 turbo-diesel, but I do have some ideas based on my general diesel experience and from your description of the problem.

Diesel fuel is VERY prone to pick up contaminants and especially water... most diesel configurations have some sophisticated filter systems to help deal with this... but good maintenance calls for the occassional adding of a can of diesel fuel conditioner to the tank, to help remove water and contaminants. In severe cases, the entire fuel system has to be torn down and cleaned, including draining and flushing of the fuel tank... and ALL filters should be changed.

Since they force flushed diesel through the system and got you running again, I am inclined to believe you have a dirty fuel problem. I would recommend they again flush your system, but also drain and flush clean the fuel tank AND change the filters... Have them capture some of the old fuel from the tank in a quart glass jar, and have someone examine it for evidence of contamination... water will separate and collect at the bottom (unfortunately, water does not separate from diesel as well as it does gasoline... that's why fuel contamination is such aproblem!)

And since the problem didn't come back until you refueled, I'd make sure the new diesel fuel you get be checked BEFORE you put it in the tank!!!

Finally, get in the habit of adding fuel conditioner periodically to help keep this problem from coming back too soon. Ask one of your mechanics about that, or collar a truck driver and get his advice on the subject!

Good luck Hellie11, don't be shy to ask for more help or post a comment, and if you need, you can e-mail me directly at [email protected].
