The wind damper, or rather wind deflector pops up at the front of the sunroof to deflect air over the top to stop a drumming noise. Press the deflector down when you are doing 70mph. It has no bearing on leaks. Your problem is almost certainly blocked sunroof drains. The water doesn't drain, pools in the tracks and overflows.

Remove the headliner. Then remove the plastic trim on the pillar. You should be able to fish a new line down.

They go down inside front A pillar an inside rear D pillar . To get at them you need to take trim off an the headliner down .

Remove the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim. Remove the rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim. Open up the sunroof and try to unclog the drainage. You will see this from the inside of the ML by opening the whole sunroof and stickin your hear thru. passengers side carpet sounds like a broken {{ heater-core }} although im not actually there to see oit best way to determine this is to first 2 people one inside the vehicle the other with a garden hose and look for the leak 2nd alternative open your radiator cap and see how much fluid is lost run the heater full there can be also seen running down from inside the passengers side where the heater core is located it will most definitively be 1 of them .
