You will also need to swap the speedo cluster. thats where the anti theft module is located. After that you may still need to relearn the key switch.I will look at the wiring diagrams and get back to you on the starter circut in side the vehicle. You may have to change some other things.Talk to ya soon. Dan

See if there is a code in the computer and work from there. Find someone with an OBD2 code reader. If I'm not mistaken an OBD2 code reader works on 1996 and newer models. Could be a bad coil and you don't notice it when you first start it until it idles down, to check for that, while the engine is running, pull each wire off the spark plug, Each time you do that you should hear the engine struggle. Then pick back up once you plug it back to the spark plug. If you pull one and nothing happens to the engine, that could be all or part of the problem. Hope this helps.

I put a 97 engine in my 96 cavalier and it will not start. it has power at the coil and injector pulse but no spark. I had to change the crank sensor from the 96 to the 97 engine because it had the 3 wire...

There are several thongs that could cause this. Have you checked the ignition module? The wore harnesses or ecu could be different. A number of sensors on the new engine could be bad or incorrect.

96 cavalier wont start has fuel but no fire.... replaced the crank sensor, cam sensor, had the coils and ignition module check and the all passed all checked fuses and all are good.... any ideas

An idea would be checking the wires FROM either the cam or crank sensor. I had a VERY similar problem. I had a wire burnt on the wire harness....it was a factory problem. Take a look along the harness coming from these two components...wires could be burnt. Easy fix is to locate it and resplice the wires.

Motor swap now it will not start

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution here. I had the same problem with my race car. I swapped a 96 2.2 into my 97 racecar and ended up having to also swap the engine wiring harness, computer, instrament cluster and pass module. The engine harness will bolt to the interior harness even though the wire colors are not the same. Just make sure you match the large yellow wire on the 96 harness to the large purple wire on the 97 harness. It sounds pretty complicated but it only took me maybe an hour to perform the swap. Now I'm back up and running and will be racing again this weekend.
