I just purchased a 02 hyundai accent and it sounds like it is skipping especially when it is sitting still. It also idles high.Could it be a timing issue?Or some kind of censer?Do I need to limit my driving until it is fixed?

Sounds like a misfire like a chugging sound maybe time for a tune up plugs and wires should be pretty easy if its a four cylinder right on top of the engine check the wires for charred discolored spots and the plugs for fouling(wet gunked up or burned away) but you should limit driving until its fixed to prevent further damage hope this helps good luck

I have no idea what a ******* is so I can;t say its not that. (this darn site and the words that get edited!)
I wonder if the transmission being in reverse (rolling forward I assume) caused the engine to want to rotate backwards or put force on it in that way causing the timing belt to skip a tooth or two.
Might not hurt to check into that.

My Hyundai Accent GL is beginning to idle to high, when driving

I think I would seek a different opinion from a shop that has a good reputation. This sounds like 'make-work' to me. We have several shops in our area that are known for doing the same thing! Service costs are high enough with trying to gouge someone. Good luck!

02 accent sounds like it wants to turn off while driving

trust the guy who said the other guy was full of it, I doubt it is the timing belt at 72,000 miles, more likely the idle speed control motor needs to be cleaned or a you have a defective MAP or MAF sensor...
