2002 jeep cherokee laredo revs up in second gear to 3,000 rpm codes 1757 and 1762 however, ALSO it will not start until 3rd or 4th try...sometimes run rough and sometimes revs high at idle. Dealer wants to replace fuel pump and governor pressure sensor in tranny. $1800 I wonder about failed PCM because of the other issues all at once..???

the only problem that vehicle has is with cooling fans is relay/module or electrical harness to module that burns up located behind and under right front headlamp assy must remove headlamp to access relay/module that is what powers up fan motor module assy.

SOURCE: Replace governor switch on 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0

Governor switch? Never saw one on a Jeep! The only governor in your vehicle is inside the transmission and non-servicable without teardown. Slipping is a product of low pressure usually due to internal wear and seal failure. Do a trans fluid change. If the fluid is very black and there is a substantial amount of debris inside pan and on filter, it may be a lost cause. To buy a bit more time, the only additive I've ever had any luck with is made by lucas oil products. Follow directions on bottle. If it works better after that, Change again in about 2 weeks. If not, start saving up for a new unit!!
Good luck

SOURCE: 01 jeep Grand Cherokee transmission problem

Reboot system by disconnecting negative terminal on Battery, with ignition Key on and engine not running, remove terminal for more than two minutes and connect it back, it will spark a little do not panic, and try it again

There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.

Transmission slipping. does not appear to be shifting properly. replaced ecm. got tcm from jeep grand cherokee same engine (4.7L). notice significant burning/smoke after driving exhaust manifold. not...

U are going to need to overhaul the transmission here, the smoke is the trans overheating from excessive slippage i suspect.code for wrong gear ratio's mean the input and output shaft speed are out of symc for the gear the trans is in, the 3rd or 4th gear is the usual codes, this sometimes is caused by defective speed sensors but most times the trans is slipping and the TCM detects that and sets a code

02 jeep liberty won't shift into 3rd or 4th gear.

Ratio codes generally indicate a pressure loss & slipping which the computer reads as a gear ratio problem. Likely you need a rebuild.
