Strong fuel smell from right side of car after driving and being parked. felt over top of tank and felt some fresh damp gas residue, not wet, just a little oily and damp. this could be from a liquid or a vapor line.what is the most common component failure that causes this and what are the other possibilities as well. thanks for your time.

If this is by chance a Equinox then you have a cracked fuel line and if you live in the south you will need to take it into dealership because that fuel system has a recall on it. Hope this helps

SOURCE: is it safe to drive car if brakes caught fire - still has lining!

I would suggest that you adjust your rear brakes. Most likely you have drum brakes in the rear. When the rear brakes are out of adjustment (caused by not using "e-brake" when you park the car. The "e-brake" when applied keeps the rear brakes adjusted with a self adjusting mechanism.) the front brakes have to do ALL of the work to stop the car. In this case going down a steep grade for a long time simply overheated the front brakes. When the front brake pads overheat they get "glazed" and don't want to work anymore. Most likely reason for brake pedal going to the floor is the brake fluid was boiling. Hope this helps. Good luck.

SOURCE: strong gas smell coming from my cobalt at all times

Look in the back of the car. The fuel pump lines like to break. You will not be able to see them, but you will smell and see that the fuel tank is wet. Call your local dealership, have you vin # and milage, ask them if it's covered by warrenty.

I have a 2006 Colorado truck with a strong gas smell out side the truck can you assist me

If you smell it at the rear of the truck. Most likely it is the vent solenoid stuck open. But it is best to see if the are gas trails on the tank. If so, it would be the seal for the sending unit in the tank.

Strong smell of gas..no visible leak...Any input??

All it takes is to have fuel seep for a smell. Inspect all fuel lines and fuel injectors/pressure regulator for dampness/stains. Make sure fuel cap seals well. If fuel tank is filled to the max, it can cause the charcoal canister to fill with fuel as well resulting in a gas smell.

Strong gas fumes outside of car

Possibly the vent line that routs fuel vapors from the gas tank to the charcoal canister has come loose. Check the hoses and lines around the fuel tank for leaks. There will be a fuel feed line to engine, a fuel return line from engine, and the evap. line or hose that carries the fuel vapors.

Why would my 1995 toyota corolla be smelling like gas very strongly?

I would be considering if the fuel cap is pressurised, if it is then the charkhole canister breather my be blocked . but if it doent start straight away then u must be loosing pressure in the fuel system, does it make a difference how much fuel is in the tank ?it can be the fuel over flow pipe if you fill the tank right up and park it the fuel can swell, it exspands. I hope this is of some help. if not I would like to know were you park it ,how much fuel is in it , is the swell strong inside the car or under the bonnet , in the garage

Car intermittently has strong gas smell. No gas is visible on or around motor or at fuel pressure regulator. Nothing seems to set it off (Eg. full tank or low tank). No gas residue on garage floor. Gas...

things that you need to look for (if you are capable):

1-do you regularly overfill your gastank to the brim? If so, these are the fumes from that overflowed to the EVAP charcoal canister.

2-check to see if there's any overall fuel line/hose deterioriation.

3-check to see if you have fuel leak from your pressurised fuel rail.
4-check the vacuum(some of them are now electromechanical) EVAP solenoid.

1996 civic smell gas all the time ,when driving, when parked, and never see any leaks.

You have to check for leaks under the car. Look at the gas tank, usually they leak but wont make it to the ground. If you see that the tank has any wet spots coming from the top around to the bottom, then the leak is at the sending unit. Follow the fuel lines up to the engine, looking for wet spots. Under the hood, find the fuel filter check this for wet spots, then check all the injectors, these can leak at the top or bottom, usually top. Best way to tell is start the car and then check the injectors. If they are leaking it could be a drip or spray.

Strong Diesel Smell inside HJ Turbo Diesel Landcruiser

Since you didnt notice any change in the performance of your engine, ill presume there's nothing wrong with your fuel injectors.
look for moisture around your gas tank cap, the hose and clamps going down the tank, around the fuel gauge sending unit of your tank. have your fuel line checked from the tank to your fuel injection pump, give particular importance around the connections of your fuel filter, fuel pump, and the return hose from your fuel injection going back to your tank.
Diesel do emit strong hazardous odors that may stick on carpets inside your car.
