1998 GMC Sierra random misfires during acceleration

Tune up time. Not pulling enough air, air filter, not pushing enough, catalytic converter. Fuel filter? Could be valves, rings. Do a compression test. Open up the exhaust system first. A bad converter will mess it the compression up. No air in, No air out.

GMC Sierra Code P0300 Check engine light

GMC Sierra with the code P0300 Q: I have the 2003 GMC Sierra with the code P0300. What could be the problem? A: The code P0300 means "Random Cylinder Misfire". This means that the engine computer has detected that one or more of the cylinders misfire randomly. This code could take some time to diagnose, as there could be a wide range of reasons for the engine cylinders to misfire. Here are just a few examples: bad spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap/rotor, bad fuel injectors, bad airflow sensor, broken or weak valve spring, leaking valve, low fuel pressure, manifold gasket leak, clogged catalytic converter, etc. Take your truck to a knowledgeable mechanic and have it check out - driving with the misfiring engine can damage your catalytic converter.
The mechanic can scan the engine computer with the scan tool and see the conditions when the misfire happens and check which cylinders are misfiring. A number of of other things will need to be checked to find the cause (e.g vacuum leaks, exhaust back-pressure, compression, etc.).

Gmc sierra 2003 obd2 P0420

What size engine does your Sierra have?

Usually, this code points to a bad catalytic converter but not always... since the rear (downstream) oxygen sensor could be bad (this is the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter).

How to fix codes P0134 P0141 and P1133 on 2003 GMC Denali?

P0134 O2 sensor drivers side before catalytic converters.
PO141 O2sensor drivers side after converter
P1133 insufficient switching of O2 sensors. Will probably
go away once sensors are replaced.

Where is O2 sensor 2 bank 1 on 1997 gmc k1500

  • Drivers side "Downstrem" which is past the Catalytic Converter on the exhaust. Sometimes this code can be thrown by a bad catalytic converter as well. So if you replace that sensor then keep the old one until you confirm that the replacement took care of the code. That way if it does end up being the CAT you will have a spare O2 sensor.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Where is the 02 sensor located on an 1998 gmc vortec 6 cylinder?

On most of the GMC vehicles there is one located in the exhaust system before the catalytic converter and one after the catalytic converter. The one before the cat is your upstream sensor and the one after the cat is your down stream sensor.

Will not start - confirmed fuel and spark - turns

140k is not enough to break the chain. you should try to disconnect the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter to see if it starts.
if it starts then you need to replace the catalytic converter.
converter clogged up will cause engine not to start.

Trouble code

DTC P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1

You will find a bad O2 Sensor behind the converter or a bad catalytic converter on the bank 1 side of the exhaust manifold. This is the one on the drivers side.
