Look at the button and see if the plastic covering is coming apart. If it is, this is what is causing it to stick, and the gearshift know will need to be replaced.Check also for any blockage on the button.

Volvo s40 will not go into reverse

There should be a button near your shifter labeled 'Shift Lock Override'. Press this and you should be okay until you can get a new relay.

I have volvo s40 2002 and i don't know how put

You turn the disc button I think it is, to get the numbers up you want, then push in to confirm the number you have and then bingo should be on. If you do not have the code give volvo service dept a quick call with your reg and they will fix you up with the code.

Gear stick stuck!

Are you pressing down on the brake padle when you are trying to get it out of park? If that don't work check the fuses & there may be a relay that's may be related to a safty divice to the stick shift. If you don't press the brake padle the stick shift will not release so if you leave the car running a child could not push in gear. The lock silinoid is at the gear console
