Hi. My daughter's car (Ford Fiesta 1.2, 2006) has developed a problem I haven't come across before. The gear change action has suddenly become very stiff but the gears themselves are operating normally. Engine oil level is normal and the clutch pedal clearance has not changed at 3 ins from the floor.

Hi There.
sounds like your release bearing has either collapsed or seized, either way you will have to drop the gear box and check it out... should'nt be a problem on a 1999 fiesta. just be careful not to pop a drive shaft and lose the transmission fluic on the floor.
Good Luck
It seems that the automatic choke may have given up which will cause it to stall when cold, could also cause the problems with the gear change as it won't produce enough pressure for the auto system, unless this happens when it's not cold as well.
