Question about 1986 Volvo 760

86 760 gle 2.8 v6 133000 . what are some known problems if any with this engine ? is it worth rebuilding ?

The engine is the weakest link.it is made by peugeot/citreon for volvo and is too expensive to rebuild.instead get hold of a 2.3 turbo and fit it.it is a simple job as all the bits are readily available from volvo/scrap yards(you will need the engine bell housing and gearbox,plus the propshaft.)

Fireing problem,


This is known as major engine damage. Prepare to either rebuild a cylinder head if your lucky, rebuild or swap an engine if your not. Depends on what lies inside. Only way to tell is a leakdown test on the bad cylinder or to tear it open. If you aren't good with rebuilding machinery, leave the job for a pro to Di right the first time.

Hey i have a 1994 mustang gt witha 302 5.0 motor, when i drove it oil would come out of dipstick and hit the firewall and when i left it runnin and pulled the dipstick out it would blow white steam/smoke...


Possible blown head gasket or rings
. Do compression test.. Possible rebuild or nust head gasket.. But safe to say best to just rebuild when those issues get that bad may get lucky head gasket but most cases it fill rebuild.. But cheap and not that hard to do if you do your self alot book on famous 5.0 motors and alot poeple know how to repair or get jimk yard engine in while you rebuild yours.. Very easy rebuild under 1,000 for renuk5 kit amd jink yard engine.. Jist think how nice when u jave rebuilt engine in that stang... Be worth it. It always is...

What is the comon fault


The most serious common faults are with the standard 3.4 engine in the early 996 Carrera models (not applicable to Turbo engined vehicles which is a different engine design):

1. The engine cylinder liners develop hairline cracks. (Engine replacement or rebuild required).

2. The intermediate shaft bearings fail in these engines (a well known design fault). Failure requires engine replacement.

3. The rear main seals in the engines fail as exhibited by a slowly worsening oil leak. The seal needs to be replaced when they leak. It's an expensive job.

Problems 1 and 2 are serious have resulted in many engine replacements. Problems 2 and 3 remained when Porsche upgraded to the standard 3.6 engine in the series two 996 Carrera models (problems not applicable to Turbo engines)..

There are a few other issues such as Air Conditioning condensers that clog up with road debris and eventually become porous and fail.

Hi

Most likely cause is the air mass meter also known on modern cars as the MAF sensor. check for any air leaks in the pipes also. any rips in the air pipes will choke the engine.

100,000 miles Oil light came on and engine stoped, is it worth rebuilding engine


If your engine is damaged as a result of oil starvation then its possibly not worth repairing the the engine.But what is worth doing is getting a second hand unit and fitting it in.If the crank is damaged then the engine is done for.

I got a 1994 lincoln town car with 80,000 thousand miles on it ant it has two bent rods is it worth it to fix, every thing in the car works it is in excellent condition besides the two bent rods please...


Its your decision what its worth. That isnt a half bad car, but 2 bent rods should only be fixed via a complete engine rebuild/replacement, or at the very least a known good or guaranteed used engine installed. This is not cheap, but a used engine where I live in Los Angeles can be found installed with a 90 day warranty for 800-1000 dollars, which is probably moret han worth it to save a very clean 94 lincoln if all else works well. However is some areas, you may not be able to find repairs for less tahn 2000 or more, in which case youll have to determine your budget and how much you like teh car. Personal attatchment to the car should be your primary motivating factor in deciding the value of any repair over 500 dollars. If you like it and trust it, and its been a GOOD car, always fix what you have...lemons tend to always be lemons, and good cars tend to continue to be good cars after proper repairs are performed when they do break.

Reverse won't work in morning till car has been warmed


Price seems normal for rebuilding and installing. Probably not worth trying to get a used unit for an 18 year old vehicle. You may want to try an additive that would help the seals inside to expand up some but its just a band aid fix. I am afraid you are going to have to bite the bullet and get a new one.
