Acura said I needed a new transmission...8 months ago...help & opinions needed please.

A litany of woes longer than my arm. Car is aging- fast! Only you can decide if it's worth any more of your time and money. Definitely not $6000. I also, am curious how Acura found the transmission problem. 8 months may not be long enough to give you a definitive answer, one way or the other. You could pay your mechanic to do some diagnosing and try to get an answer for it. But even if the transmission is okay, the cost of the other fixes will quickly mount up...and car has 170K now. Like I said, car is aging fast. If you put a thousand or two in it, you would need to keep it going about two more years to be cost-effective. And with your luck or karma with this car...IDK.. It's your decision.
If the battery was tasered (never heard of this-but thieves are remarkably ingenious), it probably only affected the battery, if it didn't blow any fuses.
Good luck.

Have something draining my car battery. I have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, and I have to get a new battery about every 18 months. I had a new alternator put in, new not used, about 20 months ago. I replaced...

If you have a drain on your battery , it would not take 18 months for the battery to go dead . What do you mean The battery gauge in the dash shows only about 1/2 power, When ? When the vehicle is running ? Not charging ! The battery gauge as you call it has nothing to do with the Battery . That's showing how much the charging system is putting .The volt's indicator is controlled by the PCM - engine computer . With the engine running should show 14.1 volts .if your only seeing 7 the charging system isn't working. The alternator is controlled by the PCM as well ! Have it check by a GM dealer .

I pack my car this morning and when i came back to stat it it couldn,t.so it was jump started. i drove for less than one mile and and it went off again. i recharged the battery again, i drove...

3 possibilities are:
  • Dead cell in battery; a battery with a dead cell won't accept a charge from the alternator
  • Bad alternator; if the car will run on it's own without stalling, the alternator is probably still good; if the car stalls you may have alternator problems
  • Bad starter; (assuming you've ruled out alternator problems) a bad starter will start when the car is cold; once warm, it requires more power to engage than the battery has therefore, it needs a jump start
I'd advise bringing the car to a shop (most autoparts chains will do a free electrical system check) and have the electrical system checked.

Hello I am having what sounds like a common thing but I can't be sure. The instrument panel has been intermentant for about for about 8 months now. Sometimes works for a day or three weeks. I am now unable...

sounds like you need to have the alternator checked, if it were the instrument cluster the van would still run, you may still have a problem with the cluster, but the running 2 miles and the battery going dead is the charging system, you may have two problems. fix the charging system first then worry about the dash.

Is the fan belt tight? If so using an amp. meter, start engine & check by putting leads on neg. & pos. of battery. Reading should be higher than 13.2 if lower replace alternator. Good luck!
