Key stuck in ignition of 2005 Ford Focus. Tried jiggling steering wheel while turning key, tried moving from Park position. Car starts, but I have to use the extra key to lock car. Also, does the key-in-ignition warning alarm drain the battery life? Have heard from some that I would do more damage by spraying lubricant. This is 2nd time it has happened.

Your ignition have to be replaced focus 2002/7 have that problem and a lot more often if you have a lot of other keys with it,try some wd40 ,but if you do take the key out replace the ignition or you going to get stuck.

Look at your shifter. There is a round sleeve thing with ridges on the bottom of the shifter handle. If it has come loose and fallen, slide it back up, and then find a way to keep it there. Everytime my key gets stuck, that little sleeve has dropped. Other annoying problems related to this would include the alarm that is typically only heard when the door is open and the car is in gear being heard while the car is in park. Jiggle that little piece and it's fixed.

How can I get stuck valet key out of the ignition switch?

Have you tried turning the steering wheel back & forth?Even if its locked, you can still move it 1-2" which is usually enough to get the ignition key out.You can also try to squirt some graphite down into the ignition key lock cylinder, between the ignition key and lock cylinder key slot.Graphite is a powdered metal lubricant that comes in a small tube or plastic container. You can also try turning the key on,putting the transmission in neutral, rocking the car a little, put it back in park then try extracting the key.

Unable to turn the key in ignition...a little play in steering wheel, but key refuses to turn

Trying smacking the shifter hard to the park position which it is already. There is a lock that stops the ignition from unlocking if the gear selector not getting into the P position all the way.

Why is my key stuck in the ignition?

Try rotating the steering wheel. I've had this happen from time to time in cars where the wheel is almost in the lock position, but not quite. You may have to jiggle it to remove the key.

What if jiggling steering wheel does not correct stuck ignition?

Pull or push the auto transmission gear selector slightly further in each direction from the "park" position. The key can not be removed unless the car is in park. If the gear selector is not in the exact spot needed - the ignition will not move to allow the key to be removed. Likewise, if the car battery is dead, you may not be able to remove the key until you connect to another car with jumper cables to energize the ignition circuits.

Good luck!

Ignition stuck key won't turn to start car!

Gear shift is not totally in the park position - had the same problem with a 2011 Acura TL - a rubber band kept the gear shift lever from totally seating in the park position.
