It can be. Anytime fuel is leaking, there is potential danger. I suspect the seal they're talking about is the one right at the top of the tank. Unfortunately you have to remove the gas tank to repair it. Quite likely this faulty seal will cause the engine light to come on also as it will cause a leak in the evaporative system.

Is there a fuel pump reset button on a sunfire 2001 pontiac?

No. There is not. There is a fuel pump fuse and relay in the underhood fuse box. GM vehicles from this time frame are known for fuel pump failures.

Fuse for fuel pump on 2001 pontiac sunfire

There are some logical steps need to be taken 1st. Verify if the engine has air, fuel and spark. Fuel can be checked with an inline gauge at the fuel rail. There could be several different things wrong. Bad ECM, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pressure regulator etc. Need to verify spark, this too may have several different problems. Bad ECM again, power/ground circuit faults, coil pack ect.

I just put a new fuel pump in my 2001 sunfire. it still wont start what else could be wrong they say it is not the starter thank you

The two most important things are fuel and spark and it could be a number of things within each of those.
You need to find out if you DON'T have one or the other. You replaced the pump so one could assume you have fuel. Now you need to see if you have spark. If you're without one then that helps to narrow things down.

2001 pontiac sunfire 2.2 runs smooth until warm then run rough engine missing and no power??? new wires new plugs new coils

your fuel pump could be getting hot and loosing pressure the way to find out if this is wrong is take it to a garage and have them to take a pressure test of the fuel pump, this might be your problem, you could have also got some bad gas, take and run you a bottle of stp gas treatment to see if it helps one of these most definitely your problem.hope this helps

1997 Sunfire overheating

Did hubby put the thermostat in the right way round? Is the car driving ok no excessive smoke or steam as these cars are famous for the cylinder head gasket going south this would explain no coolant and the overheating? Does the electric fan come on? Look into the dipstick and see if there is any white mixture around it looks like mayo that’s an indication of water in the oil. Fill the radiator up again and let the car idle with the overflow tank cap of this will allow any trapped air to bleed of and help with any vapor lock. Did hubby make sure he scrapped all the old water pump gasket of the block before he put the new gasket and water pump on? If the surface was uneven e.g. old gasket still stuck on the block it would not seal correctly and leak hope this helps

2001 pontiac sunfire wont start just keeps turning over light on dash board that looks like a lock keeps coming on don't know what this is. Fuel pump is working.

on a similar problem i had occured it is the theft lock that GM uses. You have to put the key in the ignition turn to ACC wait ten minutes and turn it off. You MUST do this three times and then the theft lock will turn off. Once that is out of the way it SHOULD start.

2001 Pontiac Sunfire - Won't take fuel

Either the fill hose is kinked or an object is stuck inside the tube. someone needs to go under the vehicle and remove the fill hose from the filler neck (1 hose clamp) and see if they can remove the object/s.

Fuel gage Not reading accurate fuel level

sounds like you got a malfunctioning float on your fuel pump (works like a toilet bowl) try adding magellans mystery oil (you can find it at most part houses like napa ect) to you fuel for a few tanks to see if it can loosen things up if not probably going to need to replace the part
