I have 97 camaro it starts and drive fine but when i shut it off it wont start back up until it sits for a few hours?

We had a problem like this in our 97 Camaro with the V6. It would run fine until my wife went somewhere with it, parked it and then wouldn't restart. When it would sit for about an hour then it would start again. It turned out to be the crank position sensor, when the electronic part of it got hot enough it couldn't sense correctly and tell the computer how to time the spark. All it would do is crank without firing. So once we had that sensor replaced it ran good again. Good luck I hope this helps! I'm on to the next problem it's having, an occasional battery drain and a radio and electric windows that die when they want to and come back later. BuzzieTN

Well i will start my car and its in park, but when i go to shift into drive the shifter goes loose and i can easily move it back and forth threw Reverse all the way to the 2! and it moves freely until i...

sounds like you have a broken shifter cable, kinda a pain to change unless you've done a few, it attatches to the top side of the transmission under the air filter housing and runs from there through the firewall and up the side of the steering column where it attatches to the shifter assembly

Acceleration problem

the computer would have a fault code.. disconnect negative terminal on battery for 10 seconds. that should clear the fault.

Service engine light came on, idol fluctuates up & down, when car is in park the RPM goes up to 1500, then when you shut car off and restart RPMs are normal for a little while then goes back up again.

I wold check the timing on the Camaro. The slightest nudge of the distributor can cause the timing to go off, assuming it uses a distributor. If it uses a timing chain I would check that as well as the teeth on the chain. If distributor, also check the bolt holding it in place as sometimes they rattle loose. I would use a timing light either way. If you are using a distributor that uses a vacuum advance I would make sure that all the vacuum holes are plugged that are not being utilized. I learned this the hard way.

1998 camaro will not come out of park untill motor warms up

The neutral safety switch is going out, should be replaced before it fails completely and the car is stuck where you stop.
