My 1987 VW Cabriolet idles fine then starts sputtering and then dies after about 20-30min and won't start. Let it sit for 10min or so and it will start right up and do it all over again. I have replaced the fuel pumps both of them, fuel filter, fuel injectors, distributor cap, rotor button, wires, plugs, air filter, ignition coil, oxygen sensor. Nothing seem to change anything. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dale

This could be water in the gas lines or, you may have wire and plug issues as well. I would take this car in for a full scale tune up. make sure they check the distributor points as well. Changing the fuel pump wouldn't hurt at all.

I had the exact same problem with mine. After replacing nearly everything i took it to a shop today to learn that I had a bad wire on the back of the distributor and the new fuel pump i installed from autozone was faulty and not providing enough pressure.
