My 1994 Altima has always had rough idle but runs smooth. I now have 176,000 miles on it and drive it daily. Best car I ever owned. I wouldn't let the rough idle bother me.

My 94 nissan altima is running rough.

The valve cover gasket has nothing to do with the engine running rough. It simply seals the mating suface between the valve cover and the cylinder head. When bad, it will leak some engine oil. It will NEVER cause your problem. I suggest taking it to a reputable repair facility, and never return to the place that gave you the first diagnosis.

I have a 1994 nissian altima that stays started if you push the gas but when you let all the way off gas it starts idoling ruff then cuts off what could it be

Your idle air control can be of non operational,a good throttle body cleaning will help you , also a open EGR pintle that didnt close properly that leaks vacuum into the engine can cause the rough idle

LouNissan Altima My nissan run real rough and it acts like it is not getting gas and when it does start to run I smell raw gas what can be the problem

Check the fuel lines in the engine compartment - look for leaks - also check the fuel line from the fuel filter - most commonly located on the driver rear side, just behind tire. Also, consider replacing the fuel filter.

Timing chain tensioner

I have a '94 Altima with 2.4 liter 4 cyl. engine. At around 150K the timing chain and tensioner were replaced - should solve your problem, too. If you're sure the chain is rattling you should really get it serviced now, not later. Also, if your car is running rough it could be more than just the chain and tensioner; it could be your ignition system, such as plugs, coil, distributor, etc. Bottom line is, your car needs to be checked out right away.
