My wonderful old 94 Caddy Sedan Deville with nearly 200,000 miles recently stopped going in to reverse. So I started to let the car roll down the short drive and then put it into drive. Kind of inconvenient when you go to the store or other places when reverse would be appropriate. Prior to the reverse issue, the Caddy was running great and still runs well once I get past the reverse issue. However it was kinda of stubborn awhile ago when I came to a stop and put it into Park. Whatcha think Gurus?

Well, the solenoid valve that controls the reverse is probably not functioning. Requires a rebuild, but it won't be cheap. Transmission shops on high mileage vehicles would like to change everything wearable if they take it out of the car.

If you plan to keep the car, it's a good investment to have the transmission rebuilt. But, if you want to sell it, maybe you should let the buyer take care of it.

I had the transmission rebuilt in my 1990 Cadillac Deville, because it had a torque converter code related code. It cost me like $1050 or so for my 1990.

I, also, have a 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine that has 112000 mi. on it and its transmission runs fine.

I wish you luck on this repair.

The clutches to the trans are totally worn. If you want to keep this car a new/used/ rebuilt trans is recommended

94 caddy sedan deville 4.9 transmisson wont engage into any gears

If you are sure the fluid level is full, the filter could be leaking pressure or not allowing fluid to pass thru. There may not be enough fluid in the valve body to make the transmission function.

the fuel pressure regulator will not do it. you need to look at spark plugs ,wires ,air filter, fuel filter. tires pressure if tires are under pressure can cause bad gas mpg
