The OBDII / OBD2 connector is 18" from the center of the center console.

You will need to purchase an OBDII scanner/reader to read these codes.

The alternative method is get a OBD2 cable and a laptop + software to pull the codes.

An inexpensive OBD2/CAN bus reader around $75-$120 is a good start.

Readyness require few drive cycle ti fill the data. Disconnect the battery will remove all data.

You need to drive the car in mix city and highway ro fill the data fields.

    80 miles should be fine.

I tried to take my car through inspection this morning. It failed because there was a problem with my OBD. I want to know what is that and how can I fix it.

OBD is on board diagnostics. If you have a check engine light on in NY(does not include upstate) your car cannot be inspected until either the codes are cleared and a drive cycle is completed or the fault is repaired. A drive cycle will allow the computer to do self tests on the various systems...ex: catalytic converter, O2 sensors, EVAP systems, engine misfire. Depending on the fault code, it may be a simple or expensive repair. Is or was your check engine light on and what are the codes stored? Find out at a local shop or some auto parts stores can access your computer and tell you

I am only guessing but it seems to me an ECU that can't remember anything is probably faulty.

Inside the ECU or ECM, the brain, the computer can be divided into sections like the circuit board of a radio or a laptop. There will be voltage regulators, an obd interface, a memory for the fault codes and a memory for recent history and a memory for the learned settings. There will be a memory for the preprogrammed settings and drivers for the ignition and injection system and an active computer making sense of the sensor information in order to make constant adjustments.

Just as with most things built on a single circuit board they rarely fail en masse. Usually what happens is just one of the on-board systems fail even though the result for practical purposes is the same as if the whole thing frazzled.
Usually When an ECU fails it is one of the essential functions which leaves no doubt it must be replaced but it isn't inconceivable that any section could fail - even one or more of the memory sections...

Check engine light is on- reason- Evap emission control system malfunction- code PO440

Causes: A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* The gas cap is not installed or working properly
* The purge solenoid has failed
* The canister is plugged and not working properly

Possible Solutions: With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
* Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
* Check and/or replace the sensor
* Check and/or replace the purge valve
* Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

Hope helps (remember to rate this).

My wipers work when they want to don't always work when it's raining. Is there a recall on the windshield wiper motor for a 1997 Chevy Blazer?

I don't believe there is a recall but I've replaced a lot of the wiper control modules [glorified circuit board] on top of the wiper motor for similar problems. Something in the circuit board goes bad and causes the wipers to malfunction randomly. There are other things that can cause wipers not to work but I'd look there first
