Actually your information is a little off. The device that is preventing you from starting the car is the immobilizer unit that sits right behind the stereo mounted on the floor. The key houses a resistor in fact and not a microprocessor. The immobilizer unit and the ignition expect a certain amount of resistance that is "Programmed" in each. It's an anti theft feature that was designed specifically to prevent this kind of action. Here is a workaround and should provide a solution to your endeavor. Good luck
Reset oil change light. some GM cars and trucks switch on ignition, do not start engine press gas peddle to the floor then release and switch ignition off. This procedure is in the owners manual.
there should be a fuseable link on the wires on the battery side for the solinoid they might be poped it sounds to me like your not getting power to the truck except the starter make shure all the wires are connected and check all the fuses
The next thing i would check is the ignition switch itself. Turn the key to the on position, If the red warning lights on your dash don't light up (and your battery connections are clean), the ignition switch is bad. If they do light up, turn the key to the start position. The dash warning lights should turn off at this key position (most cars). If you're not sure, turn on the headlights. When you try to start the car, the lights should either dim (a lot) or turn off completely. If they do, your ignition switch should be ok. If not, the switch will need replacement.
