I believe tightening the cylinder head nuts on a Honda D14A1 engine should be done in two stages. 1. Torque 2ft/lbs 2. 47ft/lbs. Does anyone know the sequence in which they should be tightened? Barry

What is the cylinder head tighten torque

Have a look on this link. You may be able to find your car:

SPECIFICATION LOOKUPS

Cylinder head bolts are usually tightened to around 65 ft-lbs, depending on what the car is.

There's more than 4 cylinder head bolts... There's usually 10 bolts.
There's also a sequence for tightening the bolts:

cylinder head tightening order Google Search

When tightening cylinder head bolts do it in 'stages' and follow the sequence .. ie.. tighten the bolts finger tight first, then torque them up to about 25 ft-lbs. Wait 2 minutes.

Then tighten them to about 45 ft-lbs in sequence. Wait 2 minutes.

Do it again up to about 55 ft-lbs. Wait 2 minutes.

Tighten them up to 65 ft-lbs or whatever is recommended for your car.

Tightening in order/sequence pulls the cylinder head evenly onto the block. Waiting 2 minutes between stages allows a 'stretched' bolt to 'settle'.

Cylinder head torque settings honda city 1.5 vtec

Cylinder head torque is done is steps, if this is not followed you will end up with another leak in a very few 1000 miles. Here is the procedure:

Step 1. Tighten all 10 bolts in sequence to 14 ft/lbs (20 Nm).

Step 2. Tighten all 10 bolts in sequence to 36 ft/lbs (49 Nm).

Step 3. Tighten all 10 bolts in sequence to 49 ft/lbs (67 Nm).

Step 4. Tighten bolts 1 and 2 to 49 ft/lbs (67 Nm) again.

Use only high quality gaskets.

Am rebuilding the engine on my Porsche 944s 16v and cannot find details of the Cylinder Head Torque settings.

The torque angle tightening method is now valid for all engines of types 924S, 944, 944S and 944 Turbo including all earlier engines from start of 944 production. When making repairs, the following parts must be used:
Cylinder Head Gaskets
Part Number 944 104 374 14 - 924S, 944, 944S Part Number 951 104 374 01 - 944 Turbo only
Cylinder Head Nuts (12 mm high)
Part Number 999 076 028 02 - all types
Washers
Part Number 944 104 229 00 - all types
Tightening Specifications to Torque Angle Method
Tightening is done in 3 steps:
Step 1: 20 N-m (15 ft. lbs.) Step 2: 90 degrees (114 turn) Step 3: 90 degrees(1/4 turn) Important:
Sequencing must be kept for each step. Threads and bearing surfaces of nuts must be lightly lubricated with oil prior to installation. Washers must not turn while tightening. Create a reference mark if necessary.
Note:
The 12 mm high cylinder head nuts might protrude above the studs slightly on engines produced prior to Feb. 1986. In addition, new head nuts must be used at each repair.
