I need a diagram of a 1996 toyota camry automatic

I have a 1996 toyota camry 4cyl, automatic transmission, the local ''auto parts guy'' told me I need to replace both shift solenoids in the tranny becuase i have to let up the the gas pedal in order for it to shift from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, but i was also told that the throttle postion sensor could be out of adjustment. is it common for both soleniods to go bad at once ? will replacing just the 1st to 2nd gear solenoid take care of the problem, and could it be possible that the throttle sensor is out of adjustment ?

Is there a difference between a manual and auto engine in the 1996 toyota camry widebody or is it just in the gearbox

  • Manual and standard are references to the transmission. Manual being where the transmission runs the gears on its own. Standard being a "stick" where the driver switches gears.

  • Hope this helps.

Reverse suddenly quit 95 toyota camry 4cyl auto

Check your transmission fluid level asap. if the level is good, you will need to inspect the shift solenoids located inside the transmission pan. replace any solenoids that are proven to be faulty. i would also advise to test the pcm/tcm for its operational value as well. this device controls the shifting patterns of the auto trans.

while checking the solenoids, if you notice any metal fragments on the bottom of the pan, this will be a sign of major gear friction. you should re build in this case.

Engine check light on

My '06 Corolla's CHECK ENGINE light came on the other day and then went out after about a half hour. It was back on this morning and stayed on, and I noticed that the automatic transmission was shifting a bit more roughly than it ever had before. Took the car to a Toyota dealership immediately. The guy told me that Toyota has had an ongoing problem with the CHECK ENGINE light coming on due to a faulty CPU (car's computer "brain"). This has been affecting models from '05, '06, and '07 according to him. He said Toyota had extended the warranty for this particular part (i.e. the CPU) due to it being faulty. The warranty expires once you reach 80,000 miles, and my car has 87,000 miles on it (yes, I do drive that much for my job!). But the guy at the dealership was kind enough to put in a new CPU for free because I have been a good, loyal customer there. The CHECK ENGINE light is now off and it should stay that way.
