1998 nissan pathfinder oil pressure problems

Could be the oil pump.

Could be a major blockage in the lubrication system possibly due to major sludge build up.

Could be a faulty oil pressure relief valve.

1. How many miles are clocked up on the car?
2. How often does the engine oil and oil filter get changed in the car? Every 6000 miles for example.

Leaking valve cover on 1998 pathfinder

The valve cover gaskets can be a large job on this vehicle and could cost you $450-490 depending on the labor rate in your area. I would quote 5.5 hours; the rear main seal could be about the same, maybe $100 more in labor time.

I would expect an engine with this mileage to leak some oil... not drip, but seep oil on the hot engine and produce a smell or smoke. Make sure the PCV system is working correctly, use thicker weight engine oil like 50 weight Castrol and use an over the counter oil additive like Engine Restore, which you can buy at your local auto parts store.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer and leave some testimonial comment).

1995 nissan pathfinder with engine oil light that comes on and off a few seconds at a time. engine oil level is slightly high if anything. oil and filter changed 3 months ago. first time this has...

It could be a failure of your sending unit. This is screwed into the block just above your starter and next to the oil filter. IF that gets gunked up and/or too leaky, the signal to the ECU will be bad and it will intermittently think you have lost oil pressure.

Major oil leak after putting in new starter

Take off your oil filter and replace it immediately. What happened was your oil seal fell off your oil filter when you took it off.

Good luck

Engine Oil Leak

Crankshaft oil seals
Camshaft oil seals
Rocker cover gasket
Sump gasket
Power steering Pump
Power steering rack/box
If you cant find the leak give the engine a good wash down , makes it easier to spot the leak.

Seized engine-1998 Pathfinder

This is 100% possible - you are going to need a new engine - once an engine siezes there is no way to bring it back without extensive machine work, to help you understand what happened there was a lack of oil somewhere in your engine and basically what happens is those pieces heat up and weld themselves to each other (thermal welding) this usually happens on cars when the oil has been neglected and or on higher mileage cars when the oil pump is not pumping enough oil to the engine - once this happens it is cheaper to buy a new engine than to repair it.
