Engine cuts off while driving. service engine soon light has come on, but doesn't stay on. stutters before cutting off. cuts off maybe once or sometimes twice a day and doesn't start right back up, have to sit for a bit before starts back up. recently had battery replaced and problem still exists.

My 1987 buick centry limited cuts off when i drive but when i start it back up it will start right bacc up at times some times it starts and die agin but when it dies the battery light and service engine light comes on but once it starts the service engine and battery light goes away and dont do it agine tell it cuts off agine
It sounds like who ever rebuilt it forgot to line up the gears in the gear box. You might see if they can redo it for ya, tell'em to take there time and slow down, an you should be alright.
does sound like your coil pack is failing. be that as it may if you live in the states stop in at autozone... they will scan the codes for free and that should narrow down what the problem is.
sounds like either your battery or your alternator has gone bad....if you can get it to an auto parts store they can check it out and tell you which it is or both....
Many people never think about or ask about their exhaust sytems causing problems..a bad catalytic convertor can cacuse exactly what you're talking about..
Sounds to me like you have a fuel issue. Try replacing the fuel filter and run a good injector cleaner through the motor with a couple of tanks of high octane gas. The service engine light can easily be tripped by weak detonation in the combustion chamber, causing very poor performance as well. Good place to begin before you start dumping $$ trying to figure out whats wrong.
