Steering knock on sharp turn after travelling long distance

My subaru forester S/20 limited 2000 model steering is fine when car starts moving - when cold, but after travelling some distance and try to make tight turns like parking on a parking lot, i hear a knock coming from the steering or front wheels area. it occurs when turning either side.

Hello,

Typically a knock while turning lock to lock (full left or right) is indicative of a CV or Constant Velocity Joint failure. In simple terms, the CV joint is the drive shaft for your front wheels.

Normally what happens is the boot will crack and sling out all of the grease, and water/dirt will enter the boot and start chewing up the bearing surfaces, hence the noise. It is easier to remove and replace than to repair. Most auto-parts stores stock them.

You can research YouTube videos to get an idea of how they sound and how to repair, in the event you want to tackle this yourself. Otherwise, take it to an authorized mechanic for a diagnosis.

It could be something simple or even dangerous. I would look at tire to see if it is wearing uneven, jack it up and see if wheel is tight on hub. Look at lug nuts and see if tight. No joy? Unless you know how and have proper tools for front end repair take to shop

SOURCE: car make screeming noising when turning steering wheel

turn the wheel all the way to the right till you hit the end of it's travel... move it back and forth toward the end... shut off the motor and check the power steering level fill if needed... now do it toward the left side. check the fluid level when you are done... is the noise still there ?

SOURCE: Engine make Knocking noise when cold

I could be one of 3 things, #1 lifter might loose prime when it sets for a while like overnight, #2 could be rocker a little loose witch is part of lifter that runs on a pushrod, and #3 could be a ristpin witch holds piston to connecting rod a little worn. None of thies are a real big thing unless they get louder or longer in duration. I don't know what kind of miles are on it but what you describe is usely associated with high millage. Just keep your ears open.

SOURCE: Subaru 03 Forester - problem in front differential, 3 wheels turn

Thumping noises and vibrations can be something as simple as a tread separation(or a big bubble) on one of your tires. As for the one wheel turning---that's perfectly normal. If you grab the wheel that's turning (not really recommended) and stop it completely, the other wheel will spin.

SOURCE: 2000 subaru forester ignition coil wiring

Are there any other possible problems, or you are just not receiving spark at all now?

The coilpack could be dead and just need replaced. If you have a voltmeter or a test light, check the wiring on both sides of the coilpack harness to make sure it is receiving power.
I don't believe Subaru used ignitors past '99, but if they did, your should be located on the firewall behind the throttle body. Make sure it's plugged in and receiving power.

Coil packs do go bad from time to time. I had to replace mine in my
'98 Impreza a while back.

Goodluck!

2 flooding cyliders in subaru forester 2000 model engine is it computer related issues? problem happened under idle in extreme cold conditions whilst trying to warm engine

Hello...i'm here to help you, but need a bit more information please. Is the check engine light on in your Subaru? If so, do you know what the DTC codes are that caused it to come on? When you say "2 flooding cylinders" does that mean those 2 cylinders are not firing and the spark plugs are wet with gasoline? What 2 cylinders are they? I don't think the problem is ECM related. Reply back and i can give you some suggestions on where and what to troubleshoot.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa.com

Is there any winning noise?

I would put a pressure gauge on it to see if the rebuild is correct you might have an internal leak. Test it cold and Hot.

2003 subaru forester cranks but no fire / no start

If the timing belt is broken or has lost some teeth then you will get no fire. Some models have an inspection port that you can see the belt through. Have someone try to start engine while you watch timing belt. If belt is stationary or moves in jumps then this is your problem.
