Question about 1989 Ford Crown Victoria
I received a "thermactor air system inactive, right side" trouble code 44 on my 1989 crown victoria. No other error codes were output, including the identical left side trouble code. Air pump is operational, and high volume of air is output from diverter valve plumbing towards back side of engine. Piping runs from diverter valve to back side of passenger engine head, and subsequently to driver's side of engine to that head. I feel piping cannot be blocked, because same pipe feeds both sides of engine. I have not removed backfire valve because same valve feeds both heads, I suppose it could be part of problem, however i would think i would sometimes get trouble code to left side of engine. Should I remove backfire valve, and subsequently the plumbing to right head and look for some blockage? Is it possible there is another problem causing the trouble code? It is difficult to get to back side of engine. I don't want to be barking up the wrong tree after taking things apart.
I think you could be right about there being air trapped in the system.
Or the heater core(radiator) is plugged.
Either way you need a pressurized radiator coolant pump to put the coolant in without air being trapped.
Although,i have seen it done by jacking the vehicle up high enough that the radiator was now higher than the heater core level, and then the coolant was put in.
But this is dangerous to try.

you need to jack that side of the engine up. take the right side motor mount bolt loose then jack the engine up from underneath. be sure to use a block of wood or somthing so you dont bust the oil pan

Your car may need a new dis. Mogul, or coil you can test the coil and the Mogul seems to be part of a healthy tune up , it seems to be the number one cause of ruff running and eventually no start. depending on the miles and maintenance it could have play in the timing around 120,000. miles hope this helped , please feel free to ask if you need any further assistance. Thank You.
