Door ajar signal on dashboard stays on, and the interior lights. All the doors are shut what do I do?

The interior switch has 3 positions. First position is " light stays on" center position is"off". Third position is "auto on and off"

Principles of Operation
Interior Lighting The interior lighting is broken down into two groups: the courtesy lamps and the illuminated entry lamps. Both lighting features interact with the courtesy light arbitrator. The battery saver is also listed in this section.
Courtesy Lighting The courtesy lamps consist of the dome lamp and/or map lights. The courtesy lamps can be activated by the GEM using the panel dimmer switch, or by any ajar door. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 kph (5 mph). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 kph (3 mph) and a new door open warning lamp switch signal is received. The inputs are:

• ignition switch position

• driver door ajar switch

• front passenger door ajar switch

• rear left door ajar switch

• rear right door ajar switch

• vehicle speed switch (VSS)

The outputs are:

• battery saver relay

• interior lamp relay

This is caused by one or more of the door latch mounted door ajar switchs being defective. You must remove the door panel and replace the switch, it is located at the rear of the door latch, it twists into the latch.

unhook your battery for 5 mins then hook it back up go to each door and open and close one at a time that way you know which door is having the problem once you find that out replace the door switch and problem fixed or just dont open that door.

that sounds like the door latch assembly is faulty it does not use the same micro switch for door open signal has the interior light

Try spraying wd40 into each door latch. Do it one at a time then open and close the door about a dozen times spray some more in there after about 6 open and closes. Do this with each door and even the hatch. This should clear ya right up.

Sounds like one of the door triggers has continuity to earth,(Shorted) Test them all with a multi meter.

is the door ajar light on sometimes also when driving? I had a similar problem with the light staying on. I determined that it was the passenger front door latch sticking. I opened the door, then took a screwdriver to push the latch shut on the door jamb. (Make the truck think the door is shut even though it is open). Then lubricate that jamb and pull the handle open to open the door. Keep doing this (closing with screwdriver and opening with handle) until the latch works freely. This took care of my light and door ajar problem.

Is it an old van? Can you see on the door frame a switch does it come out when the door is opened (push in and out a few times). 3 position switch on always / off always and door switch?
