My 2007 Forester sometimes will not come out of park/

My 2007 Forester sometimes will not come out of park position after starting the car. I do not step on the brake when starting the car. I hear the click when I put my foot on the brake and try to take it out of park. It does not do this all the time, it does not matter if the car is cold or not. It is infuriating, I am about ready to dump the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Hatch won't unlock

Donald: Here are some comments on SubaruForester.org : "We just got a 2007 Subaru Forester> and we absolutely love it.

I was wondering if anybody out there has a solution to this small gripe:

The only way to open the rear hatch is to first unlock the driver's> side door, then hit the unlock all button, then walk back and open the rear hatch. It sure would have been nice if the rear hatch had a slot for the key, or there was a button on the remote you could press.

Anybody else have this gripe, and is there a solution?
---------
Two presses of "unlock" on the key fob unlocks all 5 doors.
--------------------------
If it has a key, try that.
==========
My only suggestion is double-clicking the unlock button, while standing next to the rear hatch. I know that on my 2003, it's sometimes a matter of timing.
==================
I remember reading somewhere (can't recall where) that sometimes
if you are parked on uneven ground the rear hatch can be a problem
to open. If you are on uneven ground, try moving the Foz to a more
even place.

My 1998 Subaru Forester steering wheel locked while I was driving and the brakes went out also.

I agree with the other Expert, but the steering wheel lockup is puzzling. Do you mean it did not turn or was hard to turn?

Now if the steering wheel locked in its Parked position, then the Ignition switch had to allow it. It would be consistent with losing the electric feed to the motor and things the other Expert said. Your Ignition switch may have turned itself off. Sometimes too much weight on a keychain is enough.

If the car will start, it may be okay. But the inside of your Ignition may be coming apart or your Keychip is cutting out. You might want to change Ignition switches.

When starting 2.4 2007 a6 triptronic,i sometimes have to move lever in and out of park to get car started only 37000 miles driven.Is this a common problem.

there is a device called a neutral safety switch. it prevents the car from starting in any position accept park or neutral. the switch is most likely defective and will have to be replaced. try starting the car in neutral. this might aleviate the problem of intermittent starting.

Two days after taking my 2003 Forester in for a new radiator, the tail lights and parking lights started staying on when the car was turned off and the switch for the lights was turned off. I found the...

Did you check the switch on top of the steering column? It will turn on your parking lamps separately from the headlamp switch, and it is in the customary position for a hazard flasher switch on Japanese cars - maybe someone bumped it by accident or turned it on when trying to get the 4-way flashers to work.

'05 Forester " binding ' transfer clutch

No, they are wrong. It has nothing to do with the transfer clutches. You have a worn parking pall.

have you tried wiggling the steering wheel?

while trying to turn the key, try to wiggle the steering wheel. sometimes, the lock to the steering wheel is preventing the key to turn.

2007 Forester Parking Lights

I read my owner's manual in a more deliberative manner and found that there is a Parking Light switch on the steering wheel column that I had never seen before. Apparently, when I was cleaning my care, I inadvertently flicked that switch. Good thing I didn't go to the auto repair shop and ask for them to fix it! :)
