I have a 2000 Z3 Roadster and have read possible causes. Mine came on today. Did what BMW said. Shut the car off. Engaged the parking brake. Still came on! Damn! (Pardon) Tried it again... worked! But will it come on again and when will it won't? What sensors do we have to deal with this? Gentlemen? Frustrating driving a great car with my wife for a grand weekend

    Thank you Gentlemen.
    No. Not the Parking light.
Rather, an 'exclamation light surrounded by a
round tooth gear. BMW says stop the engine.
Engage the parking brake and start up again.
Fine, but this is not a fix. Manual suggests
a rotor sensor? (For DSC?) (Haven't used it!) Three start ups and only came on once. Surely it will not fix itself. Expect it again? Anybody else? The same?

    YOU GUYS ARE GREAT.

I live on Prince Edward Island. The founding province
of Confederation! Is this a transmission problem or traction sensor control problem?

2000 BMW Z3. When it rains and my car is parked

I had this same problem - 2 things to check:
Most likely it's the 3rd brake light - check the seal on the inside (you need to remove the black plastic cover inside the boot lid to be able to see - this has 4 or 6 little tabs that hold it in place and break very easily, so take care as you remove it. I suggest using a blunt knife or similar to ease it out). I had mine replaced not that long ago and as far as I can recall they're pretty inexpensive.
Also check the rubber seal that goes all the way round the boot opening, make sure it's attached all the way round and has no defects.
Hope that helps!
