If that doesn't work, you need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose the electronics.

in neutral your idle should be anywhere between 700-900, in gear it should be down around 500.

Why is it having trouble moving in reverse?

This sounds to be a typical fuel issue. First place to check would be your fuel pump and pressure regulator to see if they are functioning properly.

Change the thermostat and make sure to bleed the system of air when refilling with coolant.You should have lots of heat in a 2005 Elantra at idle or driving.

ask for a quality injector cleaner to be added to the tank
ask that the fault codes be read as part of the service

im guessing its a auto and not a stick either way get it fixed just driving it you ruined the band letting it slip like that either get a junkyard used 1 with a warranty and have someone put it in or have the one you have rebuild

Check your temp sensor. sound like the ecu thinks the engine is cold and is choking the engine in an effort to warm it up.
