1983 Buick LeSabre Wagon, cuts out driving down the road

1983 Buick LeSabre Wagon, driving down the road the engine just cuts out, coast to a stop, wait a few minutes, starts fine as if nothing happened. Attempting to fix we've had the carb rebuilt, new air filter, pcv valve, replaced missing ducting to bring in fresh air, checked grounding strap, this car does not have a crank or cam shaft sensor.

I would check fuel pump output, may be putting out enough at low speed but not enough for high speed. EGR can cause problems but usually not killing engine going down road.

Find the EGR valve on the intake and locate the vacuum hose that is connected to it. Start the engine cold and as it warms up, pull the hose off and if it idles and drives fine, the EGR valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Please rate me on this answer.

Problem turned out to be a clogged screen on the fuel pickup in the gas tank (no bypass like an oil filter). Mechanic had to drop the tank and strain the fuel and replace the fuel pickup, no repeat of the problem since.

Car just quits running going down the road

My expediton would do this. I would be driving and it would just go dead and I would have to coast to the shoulder. My situation was a fuel pump relay switch located underneath by the spare tire. Problem was it corroded away from road salt and for a while did it intermittently. Ford changed the relay to have a protective shielding on it to prevent this from happening again but it was only a 70 dollar item as I recall.

Car dies while driving and want start back sometimes

I would check the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay I am guessing if you let it sit for awhile it starts then one day stops again and over and over if that is the case definitely 1 or both of those things

Buick shakes, guns then almost stops

this sounds very much like a torque converter/transmission issue. i will assume the transmission dial you're speaking of is the tachometer? which measures engine revolutions per minute. to confirm, one could possibly unplug 4-wire connector on transmission near radiator and test drive. this keeps the transmission from going into torque converter lock-up.
