Ford Ranger 1997 Radio Wiring - Yellow Wire ' Red Wire, Radio only powers on when both wires are intertwined together. Yellow Wire (Battery Constant) 12V+ and Red Wire (Ignition Switch) 12V+ intertwined...

The yellow is for the memory of the radio. It keeps the stations you program in. The red needs to go to a ignition on only. Other wise the radio will always be on, unless you turn it off every time with the knob. It is working because yo can hook them up and the radio works. Just find an ignition on wire...

Don't know which is the positive and negitive wires

To be honest, it really doesn't matter - the speaker is just a resistor electrically, which is not a polarized component. You can hook either wire up to either side and you will get the same sound. In any pair of speaker wires, do you have one with a stripe and one without? If so, the striped wire is the negative wire. If you have a light colored wire and a dark colored wire, usually the darker one is ground (ie, yellow wire and purple wire in a pair for example - the purple would be the negative and the yellow would be the positive). But honestly it doesn't really matter which one goes to which terminal - electrically they have no real difference. If you hook them up "backwards" from what the factory intends, when the speaker plays, it'll pulse inward rather than outward from its mounting frame. It'll move the same distance with the same velocity however, so it'll create the same sound.
