The check engine light came on in my Suzuki XL7 (2007) about 2 wks ago. Off and on as I am driving, an error will come up & say to tighten gas lid (I bought a new gas cap fr Autozone w a lock on it & have checked it several times & it's not loose?) When they hooked their machine to it, it said EVAC leak (large) and they checked the hoses & said they were fine. Any ideas what it might be? On top of that I have a constant rattling sound..when I start up the car it seems kinda rough & briefly jumpy (idk how to describe this), also when I make turns there is a knocking sound. I have an appointment to take it in to Suzuki tommorow, but I wanted to be able to be a little specific with them if at all possible...help!

I had a similar problem with a 2008 model. It was the wiring directly under the gas tank under the vehicle. It was causing multiple lights to come on at different times. Had it not been for my looking myself we would not have found it. The dealer repaired it by wrapping it in electrical tape!! That lasted a few days. They re-did it and it lasted a few months. Now it has happened again. The first dealer said "animals" must have chewed the wires. I contacted a different suzuki service dealer this time, only giving them the basics of the problem, only to have him tell me that they have problems with "animals" chewing the wires on these vehicles--almost as if he had been coached. Be very careful. The wire that control the fuel guage is in the bundle. If it breaks the vehicle will not start.

If there are no leaks between the filler cap and your tank, then the problem is somewhere between the tank and the engine. On the bright side, large EVAP leaks are easier to find than small leaks. The EVAP system stops fuel vapors from escaping the vehicle. You have a fuel vapor vent hose that runs from your tank to the front of the car to an EVAP vapor canister. From there it sends the vapors into your engine to be burned off. If you want to learn more about this you can read about it here. One of your hoses, the EVAP canister itself or maybe even your purge valve are damaged and need to be replaced. The EVAP problem is what I think is causing your rough start problems, or possibly the fuel tank pressure sensor is bad. First fix the EVAP leak and see if that solves your problem. Your knocking sound may be a CV joint going bad. Your CV boot may have been torn or just worn out, allowing dirt to get in there and grease to escape, causing your bearings to wear out. These worn bearings can creat a knock as you round corners because the joint will bind instead of performing as intended.

Hope this helps!

Just put in brand new alternator 2 days ago. Now it wants to stall when slowing down and at intersections.

Have car scanned at autozone or similar. My guess is egr valve or IAC. Egr exhaust gas recirculating valve, IAC idle air ?ontrol valve.

Emission light is on model 2012.what can i do

emission? you mean the SES or CEL? lamp ? check engine. or service engine,? lamp.
the car is under warranty for 8 years, take it in.
you could scan it with a scanner and if EVAP is failing
tighten the gas cap, reset the DTCs and lamp is now out.
and drive. top failure on all cars 1996 to now, is, loose gas cap.

Tighten gas cap message and then check engine light on 2008 suzuki xl7

there is a DTC error stored, in the ECU. (scan tools show this)
there is a car puter, error, message that really means
the gas tank is not holding air pressure.."EVAP sys"
and 99% of the time, that is "a loose gas cap"
it can take many driving cycle to clear this code.
or 1second with any scan tool, even a $30 tool.

2001 Toyota Sienna CEL displayed code P1150 & P0420 what could be the problem

Mine is a 2001 Sienna LE. I got the P0420 code and the dealer want to replace an engine control computer for $1600. I've found posts that say you can replace your oxygen sensors, which still costs around $100 each. The P0420 seems to be emissions related. When my check engine light comes on, I run the highest grade, no ethanol gas, and usually within a couple of tanks, the light goes off again. The last time it happened about 2 wks ago, I put in the 93 octane no ethanol premium and a can of Seafoam and within a half a tank, the light went out. Your problem might be more serious, and I don't know what the 1150 code is, but so far that's worked for me.

I have a 2002 grand vitara suzuki the light of check engine soon is comming on I know the code is p.o. 442 . should I bring to the mechanic again? Thank you

First make sure your gas cap it tight. 3 clicks. On a 9 year old car I would replace the gas cap if the light does not go out after your tighten the cap, clear the codes, and drive it for a couple of days. It can also be a leak at one of the fuel vapor hoses or a leak in the EVAP system.

Suzuki wagon r 1300cc GL 5 dr hatchback 2002 Started the car this morning and the engine light on the dash stayed on, seemed to drive okay, what does it mean? i have just dropped it at the garage for its...

Hey Teresa,
This may be something as simple as a loose gas cap. Just wait until the shop tells you what wrong.. The engine does a self-diagnostic vacuum check on the fuel system to ensure fumes are not escaping into the atmosphere.. when the gas cap is loose, the system sees a leak and turns on the check engine light.
If they replaced any parts, tell them you want your old one(s).. DEMAND it/them back.. they might have tightened your gas cap and reset the light and then try to charge you for a sensor or something.

Check engine light on. troubleshooting code came back po507. had put gas that had water in it 3 wks ago.its been 2wks i got my nissian quest back. what could b problem

this code has nothing to do with the bad gas. The code states that your idle is too high. Take it back because they did not fix it yet since this is the same code.

I got my oil changed about 2 1/2 weeks ago and about a week ago my car started running rough, i attributed it to maybe a tankful of bad gas. this morning the engine was knocking and i made a mental note...

I had Walmart give me an ambassador package oil change years ago on a grand am and the nimrods never tightened the filter and the same thing happened to me. Even though I put oil in the engine seized within 48 hrs. Good luck! Get your documents ready because whether or not your engine fails you will still want to sue the oil replacement service worker for subsequent damages due to negligence.
