I need a diagram for a serpentine belt for a 1993 Buick Century with AC....also with the location of the idler to tighten it .....the old one broke and cannot see how to replace

The tools required are:
1/2-inch drive ratchet 2 - 1/2-inch drive 8-inch extensions 1/2-inch drive socket set
Please follow these steps to replace the serpentine belt on your 1999 Chrysler 300M:
1. Open the hood and prop it in place.
2. Locate the serpentine belt adjustable idler pulley on the front of the engine. This adjustable idler pulley will be closest to the top of the engine. Position a metric socket onto the ratchet and loosen the bolt in the center of the serpentine belt idler pulley.
3. Now please loosen the push bolt on the side of the idler pulley. It is a 15mm size and the push bolt on the side of the tensioner is 13mm. Pull off the old belt.
4. Loosen the tensioner pulley for the AC belt. The same steps need to be followed for this as well.
5. Next slip the AC belt on the back of the crank pulley and route it as per the diagram under the hood.
6. Now you need to tighten up the idler pully and the push bolt until the belt play is within factory specifications, then tighten the hub bolt in the center of the pulley as well.
7. The same thing needs to be done for the serpentine belt as well. Just ensure that you tighten up the bolts and have the specified play in the belt. Check the belt tension by pushing inward on the belt.
8. Crank the vehicle for about 15-20 seconds. Then turn it off and again check the tension in the belt. Adjust as necessary. You need to have about half an inch of play in the belt.

To replace the drive belt or serpentine belt on a Voyager check the engine size. For 2.4L engines, a serpentine belt runs the air conditioning compressor and alternator. For 3.0L models, the alternator and power steering share a belt with a separate belt for the AC. Dodge recommends checking the belts every 15,000 miles or 12 months for possible replacement. I have gone 3 yrs with one.. it will start squealing when you turn on the heater to defrost..
Most replacement belts have a diagram on the package. However, the easiest way is to pay close attention to the belt you are taking off, and replace the new one the same way. The pulleys themselves are usually 'grooved' or 'smooth' which tells you whether the front or back of the belt is against it. The hardest part is figuring out how to release tension on the idler-pulley. If you can get the belt on and the idler/tension pulley (same thing) pulls the belt tight, chances are you got the belt right. If you don't know what I mean, then the mostest best way is to get a Clymer Manual and read up. Its really a simple thing to do yourself.
I used a long heavy duty screw driver to release the tension on a Pontiac Sunbird.. the belt will only fit on one way..

that engine uses 2 belts I believe. if the diagram isnt clear, draw your own. Gates belts has diagrams for belt routings, on their website, look up yiu car, find the belt, then click on the camera icon to see the routing.
call a parts store they usually can provide you the routing for serpantine belts good luck getting it right though it can be tricky pay close attention to how the belt is routed :)
if you put new belt on, there is spring loaded tensioner that controls the tightness of the belt....you might have ronge belt or a bad tensioner.check belt no. against part store.
When you replace the AC belt you really should replace the serpentine belt as well, since you will have to take it off already. If you don't do it now it is inevitable that you will have to replace it in like 3 weeks anyway : )
You need to first remove the serpentine belt by loosening the nut in the center of the idler pulley. After that you will need to loosen the push bolt on the side of the idler pulley. The hub bolt is a 15mm size and the push bolt on the side of the tensioner is a 13mm I think. After you loosen it sufficiently, you will need to pull off the old belt.
Next you will need to loosen the tensioner pulley for the AC belt as well. It is the same process. The main issue is space. You will most likely need to raise your car to get at the right angles to loosen these pulleys.
Once you loosen the idler pulley in the same manner as you loosened the other, you can slip the AC belt onto the back of the crank pulley and route it as the diagram under your hood instructs you. Next tighten up the idler pully in the opposite way as you loosend it...tighten up the push bolt until the belt play is within factory specifications, then tighten the hub bolt in the center of the pulley. Do the same for the serpentine belt and you should be up and running in no time. I just performed these tasks on my 2000 300m and I wish someone would have told me this before I started my project. If the comprtessor itself is bad, you can unplug the activation wire located up fron of the unit, this will allow the clutch bearing to turn separate of the compressor. If the clutch bearing is the cause you will have a problem, these belt systems are so crazy that it would be almost impossible to select a belt to do what you want.
