your traction control switch on certain vehicles [depending on engine] is on dash this is a copy of your owners manual pages 3-34 and 4-10 explain where and how to turn traction control on and off 2006 Saturn VUE Owner Manual
Traction control. It doesn't allow the wheels to spin. Chances are all the tires are on the ice and will not move because traction control won't let them spin and put you into a bad situation.
most traction controls are on normaly and you have to turn them off. they use the speed sensors to detect wheel slippage and devert the power from the one thats slipping to the one that has traction. this all takes place in fractions of a second. no driver input is really needed
Traction control helps limit tire slip in acceleration on slippery surfaces. In the past you had to feather the gas pedal to prevent the drive wheels from spinning wildly on slippery pavement. Many of today's vehicles employ electronic controls to limit power delivery for the driver, eliminating wheel slip and helping the driver accelerate under control. Don't turn it off.
