Re: My 1998 Saturn sl2 is running horrible when I try
I would have started with the crank position sensor, which is in the block just above the starter. If no luck there I would be thinking about a fuel supply or vacuum problem as opposed to spark.

first thing that comes to mind would be the throttle positioning sensor, or the mass air flow intake sensor on the air intake hose assembly.Symptoms of a mass airflow intake sensor would be very poor acceleration or engine dying when gas pedal is mashed hard. Throttle positioning sensor can give you and irradical idle while sitting still. You might want to have a scan to diagnose the problem.
No check engine light? Have to guess, you might need to replace the plug wires, it could be a clogged fuel filter/regulator, or possibly the fuel pump.
If you have not changed the fuel filter, that may be your problem. Try changing the fuel filter once a year to keep your fuel system clean and running right.
Hope this helps and good luck.
