AC clutch is going to the dogs. Or the high pressure switch is giving it up. This is assuming AC belt is not slipping. Also check the system charge as it may need recharging.
Hello Based on what you have said and my 30 years a Ford dealer tech I believe you have a slightly low AC system refrigerant charge due to a small leak at the AC compressor or the AC line connections. I would have a shop hook up a set of gauges to monitor the pressures at idle and see just how low it is. DO NOT ADD UNTIL YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IS NEEDED, YOU CAN LOCK UP THE COMPRESSOR.
CHECK THE AC AND HEATER CONTROL FUSE.MORE LIKELY FUSE BLOWED BECAUSE AC COMPRESSOR COULD HAVE FAILED IF LOW SIDE IS OVER 100 PSI. THE REED VALVE PLATE IN COMPRESSOR PROBABLY DAMAGED CAUSED COMPRESSOR FAILURE BLOWED THE HVAC CONTROLS FUSE. HAVE AC SHOP CHECK IT OUT.
the ac clutch relay is the problem. It is located in the under hood fuse box. It is a $10 part. The relay will make a clicking sound when activated but the contacts inside are burnt causing no electrical flow to the ac compressor. Simply unplug and replace. The relay is labeled M/G CLT .
replace or blow out the cabin air filter as well. It is located behind the glove box. Instructions are in your owners manual.
If you were low on freon before, It's possible you have a leak in your system. If you take it back, have them check for the leak before they let you drive off with another freon loss.
Good luck...
Can you hear you A/C compressor kick off and on when you press the A/C button slowly off and on (off 3 sec, on 3 sec, repeat)? If your R134a i charge is low, system pressures can drop and the system will stop functioning to protect itself. It may need to be properly charged. The dealer or a service center will want to check the car, then charge it and add dye to diagnose it. This is normal. They usually request that you drive the car, use the A/C and come back in to check and see if the dye leaked out anywhere. You can verify that your car has r134a on the factory sticker under the hood or near the radiator. DuPont has a small can of SUVA or 134a at most parts stores with oil and dye. You could put it in yourself if you feel comfortable doing so and you follow the directions. Good luck.
