Ford 1981 f 150 not running changed Coil distributor cap Roar arm plug wires did not help started bur ran extremely rough then died

motors need 3 things to run properly. gas spark and compression. the starting point. also spark timing.
the motor you are dealing with is easy. i just rebult a 1978. anyways sounds like a timing problem . first i would check the distributer. if all is ok spay a squirt of starting fluid in the air filter, or even wd40.,,,,,,,see if it is gasoline problem. isolate where the problem is.

Lost power andquit. wont start

2 possible problems here. remember to always look at the inexpensive first.
That would be the ignition control module, which is held on by 2 screws beneath the distributor cap. the dielectric grease used in mounting drys out and causes it to over heat and burn out. cost about 35 bucks...10 mins. to install.
that is what i think your issue is...as fords from88-92 are notorious for it.

second possibility is that you have a bad ECM...and though takes 10 mins to install will set you back aboy 125 bucks.

Ok my 1987 ford 4.9 engine will run but it runs rough and is hard to get moving. It sputters and sputters, I already replaced the tps. What else could be the prolblem?

No fuel pressure, bad pump or filter. check pressure.. clogged injectors. bad ignition module. Because you siad TPS I assume this is fuel injected, ?? Bad wires or distributor or rotor or cap

I am having problems timing my 86 ford econoline 150. I turned the dist. to change the module and now can't find my mark. Help please!

Remove the number one spark plug, bring engine to top dead center on the number one cylinder, now check to see if the rotor(under the distributer cap) is pointing close to #1 plug wire, If it is turn Distrubtor to line up rotor and number one plug wire on distributor cap, if it is off 180 degrees roll engine over to piston reachestop dead center again and go from there, this should let you get it running, then you will have to fine tune it with a timing light.

No spark number 6 cylinder v-8

does not fire where? at the plug? have u checked the wire, cap..hmmm..77 ..how many miles on that motor? have u done a compression check? could be burned valve, fouled plug bad wire worn cap and or rotor ..check the obvious first. start at the plug..if it's not firing, swap it for a known good one.. if it doesn't fire, swap the wire, if it still doesn't fire swap cap and rotor..if that doesn't solve or identify where the bad component is.or if you find you have fire at the plug but still misses on the cylinder.... start looking inside.. run compression check... if it's low squirt oil in cylindeer and check again.. if it comes up drastically.. it's worn rings..but if it stays low probably worn valves. but i'm thinking its somewhere between the distributer and the plug.. good luck...

Engine running rough

hey

As in "rough" could you be more descriptive.
i.e.
what does it do when your driving?
is it sparking on all cylinders?
any knocking in the engine?
