Depends on cost of pads in your area of town ,but for doing a job like this ,well if takes more than an hour to do i would sack the mechanic ,sounds like a dealer job to me with dealer waffle and dealer prices for being good with a pen .i would charge about 20 euros plus the time going to get the parts from alicante

Well for one if they replaced the brakes they didnt refill brake fluid, When pads are replaced it fills mastercylender with existing fluid, Its a sealed system, It doesnt "USE" Fluid. And about 200 should have been cost.

Hello. Call at least three local repair shops and get quotes. Then check with the better business bureau to be sure that those shops are all respectable. J.

My brake pads have been changed and the wheels continue to squeal. They rattle and squeak when driving and braking

it just sounds like a poor quality job...the proper way to do a brake job is a high quality set of front pads such as a bendix or raybestes gold line pads,, then have the front brake rotors machined an a amco brake lathe or even better a on the car brake lathe. make sure all brake caliper hardware is properly cleaned an lubercated or replaced with new hardware....then have the rear brakes adjusted( adjust only if ur car has rear drum brakes...rear disc brakes r selfadjusting

My brakes sound like they are grinding

check rear rotors and front rotors for rust buildup (flahlight helps). does the vehicle shake when you come to a hard stop? You will either need to have a front or rear or both brake job (rotors cut or replaced and new brake pads) If the vehicle is shaking when coming to a stop, its probably your front pads. If your hearing the noise from the rear its the rear pads or it you hear it from the front its the front pads. If there significant rust build up or your pads are low a brake job is recommended.

Need to replace brakes on 2000 GMC Safari. does it have disc brakes all around or drum rakse in rear?

Disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Make sure that you repack the front bearing's with wheel grease before finishing the job.If the front rotors and or the rear drums have a rough brake pad surface, get them resurfaced before installing new brake pads or brake shoes in the rear. you can go online or your public library for complete instructions on how to replace the brakes on that vehicle.

I have a 98 dodge stratus, are the rear breaks rotors or disc?

You do not require a mechanic to do this job. lst remove any wheel front or back. You probably have front disk and drum on the back.
To remove the rotor, you will see two bolts holding brake capalier on the rotor. Remove these and pry the capalier from the rotor. Now you need to remove the pads. Simple to remove, but when replacing you need a 6 inch c clamp to force the pressure mechanism back into the rotor in order to replace the pads. Remove the rotors and have them researfaced any any machine shop. Cost around $10 per rotor. Pick you up some antisizing compound and high temp grease. Follow instructions on the label. Now remove a back wheel, if you do not see a rotor then its a drum. To remove a drum you will need a several tools to replace the drums. Purchase these at Harbor Freight or Sears. Much cheaper at Harbor freight. Now remove the other wheel and repair one wheel at a time, by checking back wsith the wheel that has not been disambled. Before replacing have the drums reserfaced. Now once the job is completed you need to tighten up the wheel by using the special tool which you purchased. Tighten a little at a time AND ONCE THE WHEEL becomes hard to turn back off a turn. Do the same thing to the other wheel. May take you all day to do the job. But it's the way I learned to do a brake job. Hope this is helpful.

1990 Pontiac Bonneville

All shops will tell you that you need to turn or replace the front rotors when you do brakes. I personally only replace rotors, and only if I get shaking in the steering wheel when I apply the brakes. In answer to your question 75 to 125$ us for a brake job including pads and turning the rotors.

My first brake job

I am assuming you have front disc and rear shoes? The front pads are just about as simple as it gets. Two 3/8 allen bolts to take off, one simple piston to push back in and replace pads. (this is assuming you are not metal to metal and the rotors do not need to be turned. The rear should be shoes and just follow the same procedure in reverse after taking them off. BTW remember the larger brake shoe goes towards the back of the vehicle.
