That sounds like a malfunction with the ignition module inside of the distributor, and you can remove the ignition module and have it tested for free at most auto part stores.

If you do purchase a new ignition module be sure that it does come with a silicone grease or a die-electric compound because it is a heat sinkStalls when hot - 2_bing.gif and the ignition module will burn up without it.

To install the new ignition module first clean out the mounting surface inside of the distributor. Then completely coat the metal contact surface under the ignition module with the silicone grease or die-electric compound and do not leave any of the metal contact surface of the ignition module un-coated with the silicone grease or die-electric compound, and be very careful not to over-tighten the ignition module.

Why does 1992 isuzu trooper runs for a few seconds then stalls and won't keep running? I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter. Spark plugs and wires have been changed also

hot or cold engine or both?

which engine, to work on one, you need to know what it is

and what EFI system it uses. or its all just a crap shoot.

no new distributor cap and rotor why skip the full tune up,. why?

first questions.

1: can you save the stall with a a fast right foot.

2: why change out pump etc, if fuel pressure is at spec, a $20 tool would have saved you 5 hours hard labor and bath in fuel? why?

Stalls 101.:

the engine can stall for over 50 reasons are you going to do all 50?

surely not. why not consider diagnosis.. as a path.

1: car stalls, right foot saves it. and can drive fast if i keep foot busy.

a: ISC stuck closed.

b: EGR valve stuck open (depends on which engine options)

c: low compression on one or more cylinders.

2: can\'t save it from stalling (right foot)

a: fuel pressure is low. (wires bad.)

b: lost spark, for any reasons.

c: lost 12vdc to the EFI system( killing spark and fueling)

stalls.

hot or cold or both

stalls, can save it or not, hot and cold

hot restarts are easy and it runs good hot,yes./no.

there is lots more to it, then just stalls. lots more.

Accord starts shuts off

stalls. engine stalls. Stalls only HOT. and fails hot soaked.
stalls have 4 paths ?
1: lost DC power, to EFI (spark and fuel brains) "loose fuse?"
2: lost compression only hot (compression gauge to rescue)
3: lost spark or the classic, never doing 60k mile tuneups.
or the classic EGR stuck open , again not ever cleaned at 60k
4: bad fueling. (too much floods, it and stalls it, or tool lean it dies)
(or stuck closed ISC) we clean it at 60k with the EGR. as part of the 60k service points listed in the missing operators guide. (bet)

in that order, this 4 macro paths to , no stalls.
do you want me to guess which of 50 parts are bad.?
or do the 4 tests. to find which path it is.
one takes a month, other 1hr.

one more test. can you save this stall with a fast right foot?
Y/N?

and how easy was it to save, if true.

Car stalls when hot

Your catalytic converter may need replacing. When they're hot the exhaust flow may be obstructive causing back pressure making the engine to sputter and stall.

Stalls when hot

Try a crank sensor. It's just above the oil pan center between the engine and transmission. Look and see if the old one is cracked.

199 Jeep cherokee stalls without warning

Does it start right back up after it stalls? make sure all conections are tight at fuel pump, sounds like it could be loosing ground at pump, or hot lead is loosing its connection at pump. Also fuel pump relay could be getting hot and quits working.
